August 1, 1921: Matewan, WV police chief Sid Hatfield was assassinated by coal company goons
Town Marshall Hatfield and his friend, Ed Chambers, were ambushed by Baldwin-Felts detective agents on the McDowell County Courthouse steps. Chief assassin C.E. Lively and his two fellow agents were never even arrested. Hatfield was the Matewan coal miners' strongest ally, and apparently the one guy the Stone Mountain Coal Company wanted to eliminate.

The coal mine owners and Lively are currently roasting in Hell.

1. It's good to see he has a place of honor.

4. One of my favorite movies...
One of my favorite contemporary movies. The scene in which the three different castes of workers begin playing music together was magical.

John Sayles... a very enigmatic writer/director. From the very same pen that wrote Matewan, came Piranha also.
