The Daily Show: Ben Wattenberg Thinks More People Would Consider Themselves NeoCons If You Labeled It “Chocolate”

f that isn’t a perfect microcosm of the muddied thinking of a neo-conservative, I don’t know what is. It’s the conservatives that suffer from bad p.r., that’s all. It has nothing to do with the fact that their policies have been proven to either not work or just be monumentally bad for most of the country…they’re so secure that their belief system is right that the only problem is they just don’t have a good branding. Call it “chocolate” and immediately 65-70% of the people would want to be them.

PBS host of Think Tank Ben Wattenberg makes the very serious misjudgment of appearing on The Daily Show to push his book, Fighting Words, with his vague talking points that just don’t hold up to Jon Stewart’s logic, and the only thing he can say to Stewart is “be serious now.” Dude, you’re on Comedy Central and it’s clear who the only clown on that stage was.

4. I just saw that edition on British TV this evening; few people have looked so stupid

as the Wattenberg guy on The Daily Show. I suppose the Republican who wanted the 10 Commandments posted in public places, and couldn't name more than 2 of them, may come close.

Pretty embarrassing for PBS that they employ that guy. You might understand if some academic was on TV for the first time and they came across as hopelessly confused and unable to reason, but for a TV host ... he looked like they dragged the first guy off the street who'd said they supported invading Iraq.

wattenberg asked, rhetorically 'what causes a young Jewish boy from the Bronx to become a neo con (actually, he phrased it different, but i could not follow his logic-why denote the 'bronx' as the 'singular, not plural?' (broncs, as in bucking broncos? wtf?)...the ideology they try promote is ugly, and it seemed wattenberg was trying to get Stewart to go along with the surface ugliness in the larger unspoken interest, but Jon would not going along. What an incredible mess the reactionaries have gotten us into! They try play the 'great game' right on public tv, as if the rest of us are so goddam stupid we just do not count
