Two possibilities come to mind
for McCain's excruciatingly poor election campaign. A dirty, attack campaign that seems to be doing him more harm than Obama.

But before I discuss that, I have to point out that a couple of people suggested I repost a reply I made to this thread, along with something else I mentioned there. So here is a repost of that first reply I made.

The first possibility is that McCain really is a maverick and he's become a crypto-democrat. Revolted by the Bush/Cheney maladministration he has resolved to ensure the Democrats get into power even at the expense of his personal dignity. His plan was first to win the Republican nomination and then to present himself as a candidate equally unelectable to both parties. His attacks on Obama are over the top in order to drive Republicans away from him and towards Obama.

The second possibilitiy is that McSame is another evil, psychopathic arsehole just like Dubya 'n' Dick. Like them he delights not just in hurting people but in rubbing it in. He is deliberately running adverts designed to drive Republicans away in order to highlight the pain we'll all feel when he steals the election, knowing that there is no way he could have won it honestly.

On balance, I feel 99.999999999% certain he's a fucking psycopath. But there's a slender chance I'm wrong and that McCain is a truly great man who is acting in the best interests of his country.

On second thoughts, I now believe it 100% certain he's a fucking psycho.

Malaise was the first to make the suggestion that I repost the thread and I had to admit that I'd sort of stolen the idea behind the first possibility from a This Modern World toon by Tom Tomorrow. Which I couldn't locate at the time so was reduced to describing it from fallible memory. In the interim, I found the toon. :woohoo:

As Stravinski said, "Lesser artists borrow, great artists steal." And if you google for that quote you'll find that a lot of other "great artists" also said it. Since I'm not a great artist, I'll have to call my post a homage to Tom Tomorrow instead.
