2. Hell-to-the-yeah.
She's been a complete and utter disappointment.

I want my leadership to have a spine to go along with brains.

I am not sure Ms. Pelosi has either at this point.

4. Yes -- provided they don't get somebody worse!
Waxer, McDermott, Kucinich -- people who go by what's right rather than by what is politically advantageous.

And while we're at it, how about replacing Reid, too?

7. Dennis Kucinich or Barney Frank would be good choices.
And let's replace Dickless Harry with Barbara Boxer in the Senate.

9. I guess y'all didn't see what happened today, didja? Of...
course not-- it's just too easy to blame everything on Pelosi because she doesn't do all the dumb shit we
want her to.

Kucinich'll do all that dumb shit, though, and even smart shit, too, if he gets half a chance. Yeah, there's a guy with a history of rallying the entire House and bending them to his will.

12. More than likely, if it's not her, it will be the House Majority Leader.
Since that's the automatic progression to Speaker.

So, Steny Hoyer would be Speaker.

18. I want Wexler!
Or if Conyers can LEAD and not follow and do the things he earlier said he would, I'd give him a shot!

Hoyer would be more of the same crap! We need a newer "chain of command"! The DLC cancer runs TOO deeply in leadership now!

14. You'll Get Your Chance In January
Hopefully the Democrats win and hold onto the majority...then there's the election for who will fill the party leadership positions. Wanna replace Pelosi? There's your chance...just get a majority of the Democratic caucus and you're golden.

22. Is this true that we can replace Pelosi for another Speaker
if Dems are in the majority in 2009?

Fact check, anyone?

28. Go And Check...
Before each session, the parties first select their leadership...Majority/Minority Leader, Whip and so on...THEN, the first vote at the start of the next House session (usually the first week in January) will be for Speaker. Both parties vote in that election, and assuming the Democrats keep their majority, a Democrat will be elected Speaker. It's also the only time the House goes through a roll call vote...all 435 names are called.

Here's the wiki...

29. Thanks for your explanation and the link, KT!
It's sometimes hard to find out actual facts when even experts on these matters disagree (or the Wiki entries are disputed).

My main concern is, what are the chances that a Dem majority will replace Pelosi with a different and better Speaker, come January?

30. Anything Can Happen
In the 90's, Gingrich almost lost being speaker thanks to a fight within the party. However, I don't see her being replaced...or honestly, why she should be. I don't see anyone filling that role any differently or better.

I'd be pushing to replace Hoyer as Majority Leader...moving up a Van Hollen or Jan Schakowsky. It's the Majority leader who moves most of the agenda...moreso than the Speaker. Remember, it was Tom DeLay who was really calling the shots, not Hastert. Hoyer has gone under the radar here and was the one who push for FISA...I blame him more than anyone else.

Cheers...

and glad to learn about. Thank you for laying it out.

As for Pelosi, I have developed a visceral aversion against the woman. She's lost all credibility - and I assume you need no explanation why.

37. None Needed
I've been out here watching closely for many years...and share many the frustrations about what's going on, but I can't blame one person for everything that I wish had happened. I see things from a bit bigger picture. She has faced a reality of stonewalls and obstruction...and the fact that she not only had to fight an out of control executive, but also the Senate and the Justice Department.

Also, most people here don't appear to understand the role of a Speaker...it's not to push the party's agenda. That's the role of the Majority Leader. Honestly, I'm tired of rehashing on impeachment as it never had a chance...facing a sure acquital in the Senate that would all but "vindicate" this regime and allow many who abused the system and broke laws to sneak off and come back to haunt us in a few years. I'm for a far more thorough and long lasting process...including war crimes. But I want it done right...I want convictions, not pardons and political votes from a rigged jury. I'd rather take my chances with real prosecutors...push for the establishment of an Independent Prosecutor who can find these crimes...THEN return to Congress...with a far larger Democratic majority in both houses and push for Defacto Impeachment....then on to the Hague for war trials.

I'm not here to defend Pelosi and I won't...but I don't see her as the real obstruction and has become a punching bag around this place for things she can't control.

Thank you for your thoughts as well...

Cheers...

41. Party leadership elections are usually held in November
Back in 2006 they were held less than two weeks after the General Election:

Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 12:00 AM by laugle
She is so drunk with her own power, she doesn't listen to any of the people she represents.

She just does as she damn well pleases and expects that she will be re-elected.

I believe she has one challenger, sorry I forgot her name, send her a message and vote for the challenger if you are in her district.

If Bush attacks Iran, it will be on her head since she took Impeachment off the table.............
