Honestly, Petraeus is probably an extremely able man trapped in a horrible political quagmire.

you admitedly put him right behind 5 people that you yourself just listed...

i think that hardly justifies being called 'the greatest general in us history'.

am i missing something?

edit: besides, whoever the current general is, he's usually the "best general in history" for the moment, like Schwartzopf and Powell in Gulf War I, Clark in Bosnia, etc.

Petraus is unique in this fight so far in that he's the only general that's had his heroic status last this long.
