THIS is what RW hate-monger radio has brought to this country
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/07/31/shenadoah.beating/index.html

<snip>
By the time help arrived, Luis Ramirez lay convulsing in the middle of the street, foam running from his mouth.

Blows had struck the 25-year-old Mexican immigrant with such force that they left a clotted, bruised impression of Jesus Christ on the skin of his chest from the religious medal he wore.

His attackers were white teenagers, including star students and football players, witnesses told police.

After a night of drinking, the teens taunted the undocumented worker with racial epithets, pummeled him to the ground and then kicked him in the head, court documents charge. He died in a hospital two days later.
<snip>

I blame much of this on the hate that is spewed out over our nations airwaves - radio and TV - 24/7 by hatemongers such as Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, Savage, Beck, etc. These fucking assholes continually preach their message of hate, vilifying immigrant workers, using every fucking chance they get to make them look sub-human. Is it any wonder that hate crimes against immigrants, homosexuals, and the homeless are on the rise?

If someone like Michael Savage were the leader of a white supremacist group preaching the exact same message of hate, they'd likely be facing legal action for inciting such violence. However, because these fuckers are on syndicated radio and TV shows, and are somehow considered "opionators", they get a fucking pass?

Hate radio has indeed helped bring us to this
We were at a 4th of July fireworks display with friends this year. As we talked before the display, the other wife made a comment about how her daughter's soccer coach had been behaving, remarking that he "just wasn't very Christian." Not 5 minutes later, she said the most unbelievably disparaging, hateful things about a hispanic family she saw sitting nearby. They must be pretty awful - a couple of parents spending time with their family, helping to celebrate our nation's independence.

Christian, indeed! :puke:

I should add that she is a Fox News loyalist, so is subject to day-long diatribes on the threat of the Mexican boogyman.

Makes me sick to my stomach as well.

3. Where's your outrage
When a group of black kids beat up a white teenager after calling him "whitey" or "cracker"?

Do I support beating up random people? No, and it doesn't matter what color their skin is. Furthermore, Hannity, Rush, and the rest aren't on the radio saying "Go beat up mexicans"

How in the hell did you make the assumption that I excused such a thing?

Sounds like you are trying to defend the actions of those bigots who hit the Mexican.

And yes, those you just mentioned do advocate hatred of minorities in this country. They don't have to say, "Go beat up Mexicans", and you know it.

I think for most of these trolls, they just can't help themselves. I'm sure they have this grand scheme of "I'm going to lay low for awhile, spreading my poison over a period of time" - but sure as hell, as soon as they're given the chance to make a fool of themselves, they just can't help it. The hatred is that ingrained in their minds. They're like Pavlovian dogs.

16. Here you go: Baltimore Woman beaten by 9 black teens
BALTIMORE (Map, News)- As Sarah Kreager, 26, tried to sit down on a Baltimore City bus Tuesday, police say, a middle-schooler told her she couldn’t. When she attempted to take another seat, a middle-schooler wouldn’t let her. Finally, according to police, Kreager just sat down.

She was “immediately attacked” by nine students — three females and six males — from Robert Poole Middle School. They punched and kicked her at 2:59 p.m. at the intersection of 33rd Street and Chestnut Avenue, according to Maryland Transit Administration police.

Kreager was dragged off the bus and her boyfriend, Troy Ennis, attempted to get her back on, police said.

She sustained “serious injuries” and had to be transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to a police report.

Woman assaulted by nine teens on transit bus
Kreager suffered two broken bones in her left eye socket, police said.

“She had eye muscles that were damaged,” a police report states.“She had deep lacerations on the top of her head and another above her neck.”

Two seats and the bus’ rear glass were destroyed during the attack, police said.

The bus driver on the No. 27 line quickly called police, who responded and arrested the nine juveniles, said Jawauna Greene, an MTA police spokeswoman.

All nine suspects, ages 14 and 15, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Their bus tickets — provided by the school — have been revoked, Greene said.

“Riding the bus is a privilege,” she said.“Public safety is our primary concern.”

Greene said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and she didn’t know whether the attack had anything to do with the victim’s race.

The suspects in the incident are black. The victim is white, according to the police report.

Baltimore resident David Briggs, who lives near the crime scene, said the incident underscores Baltimore’s pervasive crime.

“Now, I can't even ride the bus,” he said

Oh well, it's a free country. You can make it about race if you want, I guess. But really, this incident only goes to prove to original point about the coaresning of society in general.

75. and it was investigated as a Hate Crime ...
or do you not trust the source?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,316101,00.html

The uproar prompted two leading black politicians to issue statements decrying the attack.

...

But Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon and Rep. Elijah Cummings, both black, issued statements condemning the attack.

"The physical assault of any human being, regardless of motivation, is conduct that is unacceptable. As police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this terrible crime, we must rise together as a community to take a stand against violence toward any of our neighbors," Cummings said in statement issued Friday.

Dixon said after the attack that she was extremely concerned about the beating, which she described as "deplorable."

"I will not tolerate intimidation or violence anywhere in our city," the mayor said. "I have offered the MTA whatever assistance they need to investigate this incident and to do our part to ensure the public transportation system is safe for everyone."

MTA Northern District Capt. David Marzola said the middle school students, three females and six males 14 to 15 years old, are also accused of menacing an elderly white passenger and assaulting the bus operator, a black male who defended his passenger.

21. Apples and Oranges
Ann was referring not to minorities, but to the leaders of nations that are hostile to the United States.

The violence that limbagh is referring to quotes from AL SHARPTON.

Limbaugh cited Al Sharpton, saying the Barack Obama supporter threatened to superdelegates that "there's going to be trouble" if the presidency is taken from Obama.

I don't know what the gun comment refers to so I can't comment directly. But from the sound of it, a law abiding citizen with a firearm could have stopped a shooting rampage.

Unfortunately, your quotes are so chopped up it's almost impossible to comment on them.

18. Long List of Hate Speech:
Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 12:36 PM by fascisthunter
Glenn Beck

On the March 21 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, The Glenn Beck Program, Beck called Rosie O'Donnell, co-host of ABC's The View, a "fat witch," claimed that O'Donnell has "blubber ... just pouring out of her eyes," and asked, "Do you know how many oil lamps we could keep burning just on Rosie O'Donnell fat?" On the March 23 edition of his radio show, Beck said, "I'm a little ashamed" for calling O'Donnell "a fat witch" -- then added, "But she's so fat."

On the March 15 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Beck said: "Hillary Clinton cannot be elected president because ... there's something about her vocal range." He went on to say, "There's something about her voice that just drives me -- it's not what she says, it's how she says it," adding, "She is like the stereotypical -- excuse the expression, but this is the way to -- she's the stereotypical bitch, you know what I mean?" Beck subsequently qualified his statement: "I never said that Hillary Clinton was a bitch. I said she sounded like one."

On the February 28 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck, while discussing racy photos of American Idol contestant Antonella Barba, Beck asked his female guest: "I've got some time and a camera. Why don't you stop by?"

On the November 14, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck said to Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim ever elected to Congress: "OK. No offense, and I know Muslims. I like Muslims. ... With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, 'Let's cut and run.' And I have to tell you, I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' "

On the September 5, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck warned that if "Muslims and Arabs" don't "act now" by "step to the plate" to condemn terrorism, they "will be looking through a razor wire fence at the West."

On the April 27, 2006, edition of his radio program, Beck claimed that there are three reasons that an illegal immigrant "comes across the border in the middle of the night": "One, they're terrorists; two, they're escaping the law; or three, they're hungry. They can't make a living in their own dirtbag country."

On the August 24, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck claimed that Braille on walls (used to identify rooms for blind people) "drives me out of my mind." When he made his comment, Beck was discussing the "politically correct world we live in." He then said, "Just to piss them off, I'm going to put in Braille on the coffee pot ... 'Pot is hot.' "

On the August 10, 2006, broadcast of his radio program, Glenn Beck warned that "he world is on the brink of World War III" and that "Muslims who have sat on your frickin' hands the whole time and have not been marching in the streets" will face dire consequences. Beck made his comments toward Muslims who he claimed "have not been saying, 'Hey, you know what? There are good Muslims and bad Muslims. We need to be the first ones in the recruitment office lining up to shoot the bad Muslims in the head.'"

On the August 9, 2006, edition of his CNN Headline News program, Beck aired a segment mocking the names of several missing Egyptian students in which the announcer said that one "may or may not be accompanied by his camel." The segment showed pictures of crowds and pointed to random, unidentifiable people as the missing Egyptians. It ended with a reading of the students' names in quick succession followed by the announcer pretending to gag as he struggled to pronounce them.

During the March 16, 2006, edition of his radio show, in describing Nigeria's new public education campaign to fight the spread of bird flu, Beck stated that the country has "actually resorted to radio jingles," and then asked if the United States could be "as dumb as Nigeria."

On the January 10, 2006, broadcast of his radio show, Beck called anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute," later amending, at the behest of his executive producer, Steve "Stu" Burguiere, that "tragedy pimp" would be "the most accurate description."

On the September 9, 2005, edition of his radio show, Beck referred to survivors of Hurricane Katrina who remained in New Orleans as "scumbags." Also, after acknowledging that nobody "in their right mind is going to say this out loud," Beck attacked victims of the disaster and the families of victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, saying: "I didn't think I could hate victims faster than the 9-11 victims."

On the May 17, 2005, broadcast of The Glenn Beck Program, Beck said he was "thinking about killing Michael Moore" and pondered whether "I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it," before concluding: "No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong?"
Neal Boortz

On the August 3, 2006, edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Neal Boortz asked his audience: "I want you to think for think for a moment of how incompetent and stupid and worthless, how -- that's right, I used those words -- how incompetent, how ignorant, how worthless is an adult that can't earn more than the minimum wage? You have to really, really, really be a pretty pathetic human being to not be able to earn more than the human wage. Uh -- human, the minimum wage."

On the July 19, 2006, edition of his radio show, Cox Radio Syndication's The Neal Boortz Show, Boortz claimed that "at its core," Islam is a "violent, violent religion," and said, "his Muhammad guy is just a phony rag-picker." Boortz asserted that "t is perfectly legitimate, perhaps even praiseworthy, to recognize Islam as a religion of vicious, violent, bloodthirsty cretins."

On the March 31, 2006, broadcast of his radio program, Boortz said that then-Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) "looks like a ghetto slut." Boortz was commenting on a March 29 incident in which McKinney allegedly struck a police officer at a Capitol Hill security checkpoint. Boortz said that McKinney's "new hair-do" makes her look "like a ghetto slut," like "an explosion at a Brillo pad factory," like "Tina Turner peeing on an electric fence," and like "a shih tzu." McKinney is the first African-American woman elected to Congress from Georgia.

On his March 27, 2006, radio program, Boortz suggested the U.S. government should "store 11 million Hispanics" who entered the country illegally in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans before deporting them to their home countries.

In a December 12, 2005, weblog post, Boortz predicted that California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) would commute the sentence of convicted murderer Stanley "Tookie" Williams to life imprisonment because "Schwarzenegger knows full well that as soon as Tookie's death is announced there will be riots in South Central Los Angeles and elsewhere." Boortz wrote that "here are thugs just waiting for an excuse ... not a reason, an excuse" and explained that "he rioting, of course, will lead to wide-scale looting." Boortz added: "There are a lot of aspiring rappers and NBA superstars who could really use a nice flat-screen television right now."

On the October 24, 2005, broadcast of his radio program, Boortz suggested that a victim of Hurricane Katrina housed in an Atlanta hotel consider prostitution. "If that's the only way she can take care of herself," Boortz posited, "it sure beats the hell out of sucking off the taxpayers."

On the October 14, 2005, broadcast of his radio show, Boortz stated that if the country is faced with an impending national disaster, then "hell, yes, we should save the rich people first. You know, they're the ones that are responsible for this prosperity."

On the August 17, 2004, broadcast of his radio show, Boortz, in response to reports from Florida that looting was occurring in Hurricane Charley's aftermath, said: "If they see someone looting, shoot him. They go up there, they just spray paint an 'L' on him and get about their business, and then after everything is over, they can go collect them all and bury them in a mass grave."

On the July 21, 2004, broadcast of his radio show, Boortz referred to McKinney as "the cutest little Islamic jihadist in Congress."

in the Reich. Serb TV during the Bosnian war and hate radio in Rwanda managed to demonize the enemy and inspire genocide. Propaganda doesn't have to hit people over the head to motivate them to commmit violence.

Clearly you FAILed your English class, because you can't read. Also, continued hateful remarks aimed towards people trains listeners into a hateful mindset - making people think they are above other human beings, which leads to disrespect of other human beings.

Let me ask you, do you believe in God? Do you believe God created man in His image?

If so, how could you excuse any of what Glenn Beck said? Where does he get off criticizing ANY other human being - one of God's creations?

To go down the path of hate against other humans is to go against God.

If you are a decent Christian, maybe you should think twice about coming to the DU to try to incite others you feel are below you.

20. They may not be saying "beat up Mexicans,"
But they have worked hard to foment hatred of them. Instead of dispassionately examining the immigration issue, they demonize the immigrants themselves. Yet I would venture to say that you or I would be following the same path as those immigrants if we were in their situation.

As far as the question in your post goes: What convinces you that people here wouldn't be outraged by the situation you describe?

Unfortunately, Hannity, Limbaugh and their ilk merely provide people with prepackaged opinions. They don't teach logic or reasonable thought.

31. Listen to a typical Hannity or Savage broadcast...
And every time you hear them use the word "illegal immigrants", substitute the word "Jews". A LOT of what is being spewed on RW talk shows sounds like Goebbels himself could have written it. Illegal immigrants are the new scapegoat. Blame them for the economy going south, unemployment, crime, etc.

73. Exactly. And it's early in the game. And easy to convince people
that illegal immigrants have "no rights." The huge detention centers needed for mass deportations won't get torn down. They'll then be in place for other "traitors" and "enemies."

Scapegoating the illegal immigrant works so well to promote a police state. Immigration laws are inherently difficult to enforce and so there are always going to be a lot of illegals. There's no way to track them down unless everyone has an ID card and can be stopped any time and supervised at anything they do.

37. The difference
Between the Irish and Italian immigrants is that they came here legally and competed for those jobs.

Illegals come here and expect ME to pay for them via my tax dollars.

But do I advocate killing illegals? No, send them back and if they really want to be here. Let them come here legally. Keyword being LEGALLY

If you can not man up and be honest, don't bother...

I provided proof in a post above and you deliberately ignored it.

OPERATION CHAOS was a perfect example, and hate speech directed towards gays, and racial groups fuels tensions and you know it. You are just repeating right wing garbage regarding Mexicans.... go away.

48. Illegals don't
They're mostly paid under the table. If they do pay payroll taxes, it's because they've stolen somebody's identity.

In order to work in this country, the law says that you must be here legally. You must either provide a US passport. Or a combination of your SS card and a drivers license. An illegal can't provide those things, so they steal them. Or they work for cash.

64. Who is to say they are?
The point is, people have those feelings even if Rush, Savage, etc don't exist. I think you'd be surprised at how many wing nuts there are out there who don't ever turn on a radio. Many of the prejudices of America were formed long before talk radio. That's why the Tenn. case is such a departure, in the fact we have some proof that a guy was probably motivated by the hate speech.

I think we get into a dangerous area when we say all hate related crime must have been spurred on by right-wing radio because it ignores a bigger issue, one that will never go away simply by blacklisting the kooks from the media. And I happen to think you probably picked one particular incident where it likely had little or nothing to do with it.

I am sure people have made the connection, a lesson of recent history, hate radio was the driving force behind the Rwandan genocide.

Bringing the Guilty to Justice

The process of bringing to justice those responsible for the broadcasts of RTLM is now well under way, though some are still at large. On 22 July, 1996 journalist Ferdinand Nahimana, described as the director of RTLM, was indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. He was charged with genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide and crimes against humanity. The initial court appearance was made on 19 February 1997 and he pleaded not guilty. The trial of Nahimana and two others began on 21 Oct 2001.

The indictment alleged that:
In or around 1993, Ferdinand Nahimana and others planned and created RTLM S.A. RTLM was an integral part of RTLM S.A. RTLM operated within the territory of Rwanda during the time of the events alleged in the indictment. In addition to being involved in the creation of RTLM S.A, Ferdinand Nahimana was instrumental in the establishment of RTLM.
Between 1 January 1994 and approximately 31 July 1994, RTLM was used to broadcast messages designed to achieve interethnic hatred and encourage the population to kill, commits acts of violence and persecutions against Tutsi population and others on political grounds.
During this period, Tutsis and others were killed and suffered serious bodily or mental harm as the result of the RTLM broadcasts.
From a date unknown to the prosecutor through the period alleged in the indictment, Ferdinand Nahimana, by himself and with others planned, directed and defended the broadcasts made by RTLM.
He knew or had reason to know of the broadcasts and the effects of the broadcasts on the population. He could have taken reasonable measures to change or prevent the broadcasts, but failed to do so. He failed to take the necessary measures to punish the subordinates.
