Did the M$M blow off the scary EPI report on jobs yesterday????
Millions of jobs sucked away to China. A state-by-state analysis.
Yet I saw NOTHING on it. Amazing. This should have led the news. Here's the link.

2. Thanks for the link.
Major findings of this study:

The 10 hardest-hit states, as a share of total state employment, are: New Hampshire (-13,000, -2.1%), North Carolina (-77,200, -2.0%), California (-269,300, -1.8%), Massachusetts (-59,300, -1.8%), Rhode Island (-8,400, -1.8%), South Carolina (-29,200, -1.6%), Vermont (-4,900, -1.6%), Oregon (-25,700, -1.6%), Indiana (-45,200, -1.5%), and Georgia (-60,400, -1.5%).

4. mitch daniels (gov of indiana) is running a reelection ad
saying - we can't stop a job from leaving - but we can bring 2 new jobs for everyone that leaves - doesn't explain how he is going to do it - or why he hasn't (see Indiana on the hardest hit list) - just cheerfully asserts that it will be true.

5. If Consumers Don't Have Money, It Doesn't Matter Where The Jobs Go
Had this been a "normal" year...I probably would have traded in my 5 year old car for a newer one, made plans already for a nice summer vacation and bought a new digital TV or new sofa...but this year, we're gonna keep the car for at least another year (30 MPG is like gold these days), avoiding both the airlines and airports and budgeting tighter...the extra we're paying for food and/or energy is money that would have gone to buy a "toy". And I'm sure I'm not the only one whose spending is down this year.

China needs us...or at least our consumer market...without it their economy and political system will collapse. In the 80's, many said Japan was about to take over the country, but a combination of a soft economy and an overheated Japanese one (not different than China today) led to a major crash that Japan still hasn't completely overcome.
