Important! (RE Karl Rove Contempt, Please Read!)
Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 03:22 AM by Karl_Bonner_1982
The articles about House Judiciary Committee's writ of contempt against Karl Rove state that Nancy Pelosi may bring it to a vote in September. Now as most of us DUers know by now, Pelosi has been engaging in a barrage of chickenish tactics to block impeachment, forced ending of the Iraq War, etc. and many of us are cynical that she will allow a vote on Rove's contempt.

Which is why I decided to write this proposal.

We have a full month to plot our moves on this one. If we are serious about pressuring Pelosi to show some backbone for once, then let's set up a petition to hold a vote for contempt! Spend the month of August gathering signatures for this cause, then we can deliver it either on Sept. 1 or the day after Labor Day, whichever is the day Congress returns (I'm not sure which). In order for it to be truly successful, it has to extend beyond the DUniverse and to all the other progressive, anti-war, pro-impeachement, and anti-Rove sites and organizations.

We are good at grumbling and chattering about the problems out there, but mass petitions do happen from time to time, and there's no reason a big one couldn't be started by a dedicated group here. (Are there any notable biggies that were born here on DU?)

It only takes 30 seconds or so to sign a petition and pass it on, and we can make it very simple and short so people feel like they don't have to take any time to read through it.

I'm no expert on e-petitions, especially not on how to get all the signatures gathered together in one list without duplicates becoming a problem. If there's anyone here who could help in getting a precise petition process going, I'd love to put my effort into launching it.

Summary: We create a concise petition demanding that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hold a Congressional vote on contempt citations for Karl Rove's failure to appear at the Congressional investigations. We gather as many signatures as we can by the end of August and deliver a printed list of names to Capitol Hill at the beginning of September.

I know I'm still a semi-newbie here with only 300 postings, but I want to do something about this. Karl Rove is one of the nastiest players in the "right wing conspiracy" I've ever known, and this kind of arrogant above-the-law defiance is the kind that must be confronted without compromise.

So what's the first step to making this a big-time petition?

2. Nancy Pelosi needs to be charged with obstruction of justice.
She has admitted that Democrats are complicit in the Boosh crime sprees and therefore won't vote in sufficient numbers to hold the gang accountable.

3. There is no respectful way to put it. Nancy Pelosi is a coward!

Nothing will be done and the individuals doing nothing should be held accountable. We no longer live in a country with a Constitution that upholds the rule of law. The people breaking the law can throw you into jail. Something different must be done.
We need new ideas. :dem:
