i figured out a way to beat the "borrow and spend" policies of the other party.
we've been screaming that borrow and spend saddles our children with future interest payments, but that's so vague and seems like a "one of these years" way off in the future kinda thing.
so the idea is to make it concrete by carving out an entire tax bracket just for paying off his debt, and naming it 'george'.
junior's idiotic policies and fiscal insanity has saddled us with over 3 TRILLION dollars in additional debt, by my very crude calculations. i just added up the annual budget deficits and projections and generously rounded DOWN.
there are about 130 individual million tax returns each year, so that's aobut a whopping $23,000 per return. i know, i know, not all of them have any, or much, tax liability, but i'm using crude approximations throughout.
now, i ran these numbers through a mortgage-type calculator: $23,000 mortgage, 30-years, 5% fixed. this is a monthly payment of about $125, or $1,500 per year.
got that? they could sock EVERY SINGLE FILER with a $1,500 bill for each of the next THIRTY YEARS and it would only pay off the portion of the debt shrub has run up these 8 miserable years. that still does nothing about the reagan/poppy debt, but that's another story.
anyway, $1,500 just happens to be 15% of $10,000.
so my modest proposal is to carve out the first $10,000 of the 15% bracket and name it:
THE GEORGE W. BUSH THIRTY YEAR TAX BRACKET
that's right. basically the tax you pay on the first $10,000 of taxable income goes just to pay shrub's tab.
if that goes over well, we can name the NEXT $10,000:
THE RONALD REAGAN AND GEORGE H. W. BUSH THIRTY YEAR TAX BRACKET
because they ran up about the same tab, it's just that junior did in 8 what took them 12.
