My name is Asher Heimermann from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I am 14 years of age and this is my fouth year involved in politics and government. I have submitted countless letters to political and government leaders as well as international leaders. I've been volunteering for Senator Barack Obama since June, 2007. Last week, I reached my fundraising goal of $3,000 for Senator Obama.

I have decided to get involved for multiple reasons, the primary reason being today a lot political views of the youth are not heard and I feel it is an important to make a difference. But as it seems like you know, based on your apparent maturity, sometimes caring doesn't include nice. Often the least caring and most vicious people are perfectly nice.

DU generally gives a shit about humanity (which includes you) and I personally think that's better than "nice" ;)

Many Midwesterners (of which I am one) are born Republicans, but will naturally evolve when they develop critical thinking skills and a sense of community. "latest breaking news" is a wonderful place to get the news of the day, actually days before you will see it in any of the msm. that is an amazing and an incredible place to get ideas.

and the "lounge" is a fun place to hang out and discuss things, many cool people there. fun stuff. especially if you love kitties. and do this "introductory" post thing over there too. there is a wonderful young woman named ava you might want to meet. she is young like you (a bit older) and does incredible political videos. networking, you know...

i would avoid the "general discussion: presidential" forum if i were you. a very hard crowd posts there. i never post there, and i almost never read a post from there. people there seem to just want to fight. i'm not big on fighting.

"general discussion" is a mixed bag. sometimes fun. sometimes a hate fest. viewer discretion is advised...


and then there are the many "topic" and "group" forums that can either inform or scare, depending upon your disposition.
