Bush is Batman fighting the evils of Islamic terrorists.
This article in the WSJ equates Batman's war against the villans of Gotham City to W's unprecednted pre-emptive murderous strike on the innocent people of Iraq. I have seen the Dark Knight, and perhaps I missed the part where Batman starts dropping bombs on the citizens of Gotham City just to kill a small faction of criminals. This is just sickening, sick.

"There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war. Like W, Batman is vilified and despised for confronting terrorists in the only terms they understand. Like W, Batman sometimes has to push the boundaries of civil rights to deal with an emergency, certain that he will re-establish those boundaries when the emergency is past."

12. Yeah, excpet in the movie there really WAS a clearly defined emergency
and Lucious Fox served as the ultimate check on the power.

Bush has neatly smeared any lines clearly defining when the "emergency" of terrorism will end (It never can) and has removed every single check on his using these powers.

Yeah, it's exactly the same thing.

:eyes:

What a knob.

13. Bush is the poser that the Joker snares in the movie. He wears the mask and hood...
but that's as far as the resemblance goes.

14. It's typical of Bush's whole presidency
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 02:12 PM by Nasprin
He believes that he is the only person capable of seeing the true evil in the world, and we (all the people) are just incapable of seeing this evil and doing anything about it. So Bush is our caped crusader here to save us from ourselves. What really pisses me off is that Bush believes that all the great people who have tried to end the various conflicts in the middle east, for the thousands of years that there has been conflict in the middle east, Bush believes that he is one person who could make the middle east free from war and violence. And as far as Bush is concerned there is no means to extreme to justify that end.

edit:

Yeah that was a typo. I mean whole. Though now that I think about it, Bush's presidency is like a hole. He just keeps digging himself a new one.

18. Er, Batman is anti-gun and anti-killing. So....No.
You know, if this movie had made 10 million less opening weekend, we wouldn't be having these conversations.

20. Seems appropriate. Since both Bush and the "Islamic Terrorists" are comic book chararcters.
But, hey, the product still sells to the gullible.
