I now think that McCain is forced to name a running mate first
He needs to do something to get some publicity for his sinking campaign. The Obama foreign trip has been a success. He is ahead in the polls and InSane commits a gaffe a day. I think Obama has the luxury of waiting until nearly the beginning of the convention to name a running mate, something to get the convention off to a big start. I don't think McCain has that luxury. The Olympics are coming up in two weeks and then the focus of the media/voters will be on that. McCain has to do something dramatic now to get back in the game. I think he will name his running mate in the next ten days or so. I'm glad if he does, too because that will mean Obama will have the luxury of seeing who the completed GOP ticket would be in making his decision.

5. Scuttlebutt around Washington D.C.
Says that someone overheard McCain, who was having dinner at a DC restaurant, talking about asking that bright, young superstar, Barack Obama to be his running mate. Immediately after saying that, his handlers gently rushed him out of the restaurant.
