1. What if you're already in the military?
I plan on serving under Obama's leadership. In fact, I'm looking forward to it.

Let corporations pay for their own wars and hire their own military instead of using ours.

8. At 55 years of age it is kind of a moot point.
I was in college during Vietnam and would get solicited by the armed forces to join up, but I never considered that to be a good career move during a war. The irony was that I was attending college on the GI Bill because my father was a 100% disabled vet from WWII. Also, my draft lottery number was 258, so there was no way I was going to be drafted.

I have a 19 year old godson who enlisted a couple of years ago and I tried to warn him of the possibilities, but he wouldn't listen to me (kids think they are invincible and immoral). Last week he was deployed to the area in northeast Afghanistan where the 9 troops were killed the other week. Life is about choices and consequences and he made the choice even when presented with the facts and possibilities.

9. My son is planning to follow in his uncle's footsteps and go NROTC
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 10:44 AM by Marrah_G
He wantS to go to college for aero engineering.

I called my brother last week to discuss things with him and I asked him if he was happy with his life, that if he had to do it all over again would he. He came back with an enthusiastic yes. This is after being pulled out of retirement last year and sent to Iraq (on the ground) causing him to miss his son's birth.

So would I join the military? No, they wouldn't take me anyway.

But it looks my son might. He is just entering his junior year of HS, he might still change his mind.

10. No fuckin way unless another country attacks this country and I mean this land, here.
I've had enough of the military psych permeating our society. No, our freedom does not depend on us fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. Our freedom depends on us controlling our government and the military industrial corporations, not the government and corporations controlling us. It's too bad that people can't get a job but does that mean you need to go learn how to kill? I am very aware that the military thinks that civilians should be more militarized ...how nice ...so let me keep my damned guns then. Ever since the government tried to draft me into another illegal war in Vietnam I have hated the military. I hate what it did to my friends and cousins. I hate the military and I always will. I hate the pride and the glorification of war and death.

18. You can't be serious
It's obviously a poll trying to show the loss of faith in leadership is so great, people won't join the military because they don't trust, or agree with its actions.

21. When AIPAC, the neocons, AND the neolibs are out of power,
when the dept of peace has a bigger budget than the DoD, I might consider it. Of course, I'm really too old to join the military, and by then I'll be dead.

And, we seem to crave "leaders" who inevitably seek more power. Yet, we berate the poor lemmings for doing the same thing.

They are less conspicuous than the neocons or AIPAC, but are still a driving force behind current America foreign policy.

19. For me, whoever is elected in November is irrelevant to this decision.
Step 1: Repeal DADT.

Step 2: End our current occupation of aggression in Iraq.

Step 3: Have a Commander in Chief that does not value preemptive strikes against sovereign nations as the backbone of US foreign policy.

After all three of these steps are taken, then maybe I would consider joining the military.

I would in a heart beat. I see it as we as a people have to have a leader and him being the leader he is and if he asked me to die for him and his vision I would. This man is going to make us all real proud to be Americans again, more so than William Jefferson Clinton did when he was President

36. Nah. War is War
and who will be the last man standing?

I'm just a goofy pre-pregnantslut already positioned under the firm, moral guidance of a paternal, x-tian leadership every four years. I can't imagine what the American military would want from me other than to sexually harass and rape me because youth must have its fling. Why go through all that rigorous American pomp and let the eagle soar circumstance when I can be in the United States of America and get all that sexual harassment and rape with a better justice and support system.

At this point, the money and 3 squares wouldn't be worth further dehumanization, or is the '3 squares' something I would get in prison. I get confused, I must be ovulating. I should consult Dr. Barack Obama and Dr. Cameron Strang for their medical expertise with strong medical terminology consisting of "I think that..., I don't think that...otherwise, as long as there is such a medical exception in place, I think we can prohibit late-term abortion." He sounded like a mechanic assuring a mentally distressed Cameron he could remove the ding from his cool car.

Sorry. Even if I were delusional enough to believe that Obama - my new kinder, gentler x-tian mentor - is the wind beneath my wings, I would have to decline his kind offer of allowing me, a mere female ward of the state, my military service to help keep patriarchy free and safe.
