1. "So Wrong For So Long:
How The Press, The Pundits - And The President - Failed On Iraq." It's by Greg Mitchell, who's editor of Editor & Publisher.

19. My choice as well. I highly recommend it.
It's the kind of book you can't get out of your head. You will learn so much by reading it.

It should be required reading in college economic or political courses.

26. How do we ever...
pass on to others the short version of what she says in Shock?

Start telling yourself the message of the book, and you start to sound like some kind of tinfoil hat person.... even to yourself.

"A group of very dogmatic economists and their rich buddies want to destroy the country... indeed, world.. so they can become super-rich."

Sounds like you're paranoid.

In this case, reality is a lot scarier than some little ol' paranoid delusion.

3. My favorite is always the same-
Peoples History of the United States - Howard Zinn There's not too many people around here who haven't read it yet I'm sure. But there is a great documentary companion to go along with it- Howard Zinn: Voices of a People's History of the USA

I gave my daughter Peoples History when she was sixteen, and told her not to believe everything she heard in US History in high school.

6. The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter
A smallish paperback chock filled with facts about McCain and lots of documentation of his facts. A good little manual to tab and put notes in the margin. A reference that reads easy.

I'm also liking another book called Black Men Built the Capitol. I'm too lazy to go get it to tell you the author but it's easy to find. :D

8. here's my wishlist:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/registry/2GGHPDIR64KHQ/ref=wl_s_3/103-8475269-0170213?

i have a bunch of what i consider must-reads on it. i'm reading against empire by michael parenti just now, having finished armed madhouse, conservatives without conscience, worse than watergate, imperial life in the emerald city, and the end of america.

and everybody should read Catch-22 at least once in their life it's a masterpiece. :)

i know there are so many more though.

The Corporation is available freely online. http://www.moviesfoundonline.com/index.php this page has beaucoup documentaries and i've watched nearly every one particularly with regard to iraq and 911. they link to separate pages for both issues. one favorite: http://www.moviesfoundonline.com/orwell_rolls_in_his_grave.php would be a great choice for the dvd as the online version is low quality.

glad you asked :) i'll check back for more titles as well.

"The World According to TomDispatch: America in the New Age of Empire" Edited by Tom Engelhardt.

I posted a review here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=103&topic_id=371398&mesg_id=371398

I put a hold on it at my library.

Multiple authors: Chomsky, Chalmers Johnson, etc.

Perfectly Legal by David Cay Johnston: http://www.perfectlylegalthebook.com/author.htm is a 'classic' & will feed the rage pretty good.

:hi:
