McCaskill: health care an issue in Bombardier decision
JEFFERSON CITY | If you’re wondering why Bombardier Aerospace chose Montreal over Missouri for the site of its new assembly plant, Claire McCaskill says look no further than health care.
Sen. McCaskill, speaking in a conference call with reporters this afternoon, said it was Canada’s single-payer health care system that likely made Montreal more attractive than Kansas City International Airport for the $375 million plant
For proof, she pointed to another big manufacturer: Chrysler. While the automaker is shutting down one plant and cutting production at another in St. Louis, its plant up north is still running three shifts, McCaskill said.
“Look, we’ve got a governor who thought it was OK to cut health care in Missouri, instead of a governor who understands you’ve got to provide health care for every American,” she said, alluding to Matt Blunt, who in 2005 dropped nearly 100,000 from the state’s Medicaid rolls.
