My latest email to Senator Salazar
I just wrote this email to my Senator. I hope lots of you are doing the same.

I was very disturbed to hear that I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was found guilty of four of five criminal charges including perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements to the FBI. Nevertheless, Libby's crimes are the tip of the iceberg. He, Vice President Dick Cheney and President George Bush are guilty of revealing the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame. At the time, Plame was working in nuclear non-proliferation. Her outing endangered her life, the lives of those working for our country around her, and seriously damaged our intelligence capabilities. Their actions could even be considered to be an act of treason.

Senator, I ask you to please start or join an extensive Congressional investigation into the actions of Libby, Cheney, Bush and others in the Bush Administration concerning the revealing of Valerie Plame's identity, what they knew in the days prior to the invasion of Iraq, and whether they were truthful when they told Congress, the United Nations and the American people that there was evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

I believe that the actions of Bush and Cheney in these matters are impeachable offenses. If you find in investigations that they are guilty of these crimes, I must ask you to work for the impeachment and removal from office of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. These crimes are far too serious to ignore, or gloss over in the name of political expediency.

Sincerely,

Meldroc

3. Salazar is a bit of a DINO...
I received form-letter replies from his staff in the past. He also voted with the GOP a few too many times, most notably for the Military Commissions Act last year.

I think that despite all that, he can be turned back from the dark side, if he has enough pressure to do so. So can most of the other DINOs, and some of the more moderate Republicans.

2. Senators don't impeach.
If the House impeaches, then the Senate will hear the evidence and decide whether to convict. (Senators act as jurors.) So, Salazar cannot work toward impeachment, and only after he hears the evidence can he work for removal. To do so prior to an actual impeachment trial would be acting imprudently -- kind of like a criminal juror coming in convinced that he'll vote to convict, before hearing any of the evidence, just based on what he read in the paper.

4. They can investigate.

Both the House and the Senate can open investigations, and dig up lots of evidence that can later be used in the House in a vote to impeach. Technically, he can't vote to impeach, but he can certainly pull strings if he wants to.

I'm writing my Senator because my Representative happens to be Marilyn Musgrave. She's drank so much of the fundie neo-con Kool-Aid that writing her's a waste of time. Even if Bush eats a baby on the Capitol steps, she'll be going head over heels defending him.
