The comment is the 4th subject in this gossipy column from the WP.

www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/06/AR2007030602865.html

Karen Hughes and Hadassah Lieberman lunching together yesterday at the Four Seasons, which we like to imagine was the White House's secret back-channel attempt to get Sen. Joe Lieberman to switch parties but may well have been perfectly innocent. The senator's wife had her arm in a cast -- no details about that from the senator's office.

2. Wrong. The LAST thing the WH wants is for Joe to switch parties.
He provides useful spin when he spouts the NeoCon talking points...
but the USEFULNESS comes from the (D) the media still INCORRECTLY
places after his name.

As such, he is unique and valuable to them, whereas
(R)s that do what he does are a dime a dozen.

4. Hadassa's arm was in a cast?
That's some pretty serious arm-twisting, but I'm sure Mrs. Hughes is up to it.

Seriously though, I agree with the other poster in this thread that Lieberman is more valuable as DINO cover for the Bush administration than as an actual Republican. Besides, for all his faults, Lieberman can count, and he knows that whatever short-term benefit he'd reap by jumping the aisle, nothing would change for this Congress (the Senate has already written its rules and made its committee assignments for this session, and thanks to the last Congress, those can't be changed), and he'd be in an even smaller minority after the 2008 election, when the Democrats will pick up anywhere from three to five more Senate seats.

5. Karen just wanted know how soon "could they move into Blair House?",
or VP residency. I think Old Joe may become a VP after all.
