Is this Checkmate for Israel's warhawks?
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 10:14 AM by Prefer
Looks like we are being put to the test by Opec.

In order to defend Israel's premptive strike against Iran, we have to accept unlimited oil increases.

Which do you choose? Which can you afford to choose?

VIENNA: The head of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries warned Thursday that oil prices would see an "unlimited" increase in the case of a military conflict involving Iran, because the group's members would be unable to make up the lost production.

"We really cannot replace Iran's production - it's not feasible to replace it," Abdalla Salem El-Badri, the OPEC secretary general, said in an interview.

2. They suggested unlimited increases were okay?
That's scary. Sounds like to me OPEC is issuing an ultimatum to the US about what will happen if we attack Iran. I think that's called asserting leverage. We can't afford "unlimited" increases. I don't know anybody that can. I don't see prices getting any lower than they are now. At least they are at a level where people are beginning to seriously push for conservation and alternative sources. Of course there is nothing to say *shrub and his sidekick don't want unlimited price increases either.

3. It's not even really a threat of will or asserting leverage
they simply stated the fact that they can't cover for us. They can't increase their output to make up for the loss of Iranian oil. So the market is what would drive the prices up in an unlimited fashion. Simple supply and demand dynamics.

It is more like an utterance of the reality more than the utterance of a threat.
