Iran deserves it
Payback for inflicting Algebra (al-Jabr - Persia), which spawned Calculus, on every schoolkid-in the world</payback>

“Stand firm in your refusal to remain conscious during algebra. In real life, I assure you, there is no such thing as algebra.” Fran Lebowitz

2. Another reason that I am so glad that I never had to go to school.
I would have walked straight out of Algebra Class.

Algebra is right up there with having to memorize that Chemistry chart with all the elements on it.

What a bunch of useless clap-trap (meaning no offense to the Mathematical and Chemistry types here).

3. hey, wait a minute...
I just finished my basic chemistry course and start on Algebra 2 review this Thursday. }(

Useless crap, indeed. Very important to know for those who deliver healthcare or do scientific research.

Also very important for those who benefit from advances in science. That would be all of us. :bounce:

5. Hey, I don't mind the benefits.
But the stuff makes my head hurt.

My cousin can do Algebra in his head, but almost flunked it in school because his teacher insisted that everyone in class submit their worksheets(or whatever you call them) along with their tests, and he never had any.

He is now one of the world's foremost Thoracic Surgeons.

4. Hey, I like Algebra!
BTW: Isn't that subject line in rather bad taste?

6. Math is beautiful
As is algebra, in particular.

7. Me Culpa
Yes the subject line was a bit close to the line. It was really meant to be a (satirical) recognition of the ancient advanced Arab culture that some now call savage or barbaric while our ancestors were wearing blue paint.

Sorry.

It was the witty Lebowitz comment that got me going.

And yes Math can really be a beautiful thing and as a scientist by training the Periodic Table is a thing of wonder.

Mike
