A caller on The Stephanie Miller Show last week
(I think it was last Thursday's show) mentioned that she could never vote for Obama because she doesn't trust him. She thinks he may be looking out for interests other than those of the American people.

She also stated that she thought Obama was being influenced by and running as Joe Lieberman's proxy as Joe Lieberman was Barack Obama's mentor when Barack first came to DC.

I hadn't seen this matter discussed on DU at anytime and I wondered if anyone remembered whether or not Joe L was mentor to Barack Obama or if there could be anything to Barack being exposed to the influence and friends of Joe Lieberman.

Please keep in mind, I want to be educated, not flamed.

1. Every freshman Senator gets assigned a "mentor"
Lieberman was Obama's. The mentor thing is mostly for getting the freshmen used to rules, procedures, traditions, etc., though obviously the two generally from at least some kind of bond.

2. The only thing I've read is that Lieberman became his mentor when
Obama was sworn in. Something that's common in the Senate for freshman senators. Ever since the New York Times wrote that, liberal blogs have jumped all over it as if Obama is going to take after Lieberman or something.

That would be pretty hard to do since Obama is against the war and Lieberman isn't.

3. I like Obama, but wasn't he also wooed by some repubs when
he went to DC? I thought there was some info about that when he was a new Senator and even some people at DU kinda raised eyebrows at that.

4. She sounds like a bigot to me. What is she suggesting? That he supports Osama? Guess the name
game goes on huh? It is so ridiculous it really isn't worthy of any attention. Who really believes he is mindlessly following Lieberman? Barack is intelligent, articulate, and independent. Suggesting that he needs someone else to tell him how to think makes me laugh. Sounds like a freeper call in to me.
