Question...going on vacation...Airplane involved...Hubby carries an epi pen
does he need documentation from his doctor ?

will they hassle him at checkpoint?

we have traveled before with it, but not since the "no liquid" hassle

1. Aren't epi pens by prescription only?

4. yes. When he first had to carry it he had a letter from his doctor
then the last 10 times we flew, he didn't have it and just walked right through checkpoint

we need to know if since the liquid scare mess, should he visit the Dr and get a new letter.

We leave on the 17th

10. Just have the prescription on it.
I got stopped, taken to the little back room, frisked and searched up and down. The only thing they looked real hard at was my Epipen. You need to have a prescription on it or an official Doc's order.

2. Ask the question on FlyerTalk
You'll get lots of answers.

Or go to the TSA site.

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#2

You know what TSA stands for don't you?

Thousands Standing Around -
or
Terrorists Standing Around
(Because they use fear to make us bend to their will)

3. I don't know what that is but you probably should call the airline and ask.
If it's a prescribed thing, I'd think a doctor's note would be free insurance against unnecessary hassle.

6. it is a shot of Adrenalin to keep him from going into anaphalytic shock
it is pre loaded and if he were to come into something he is allergic to, he swings it and stabs his leg with it...

he is deathly allergic to wheat and would die with in 15 minutes if it were not for the epi...

he has come close two times.

YOU would be surprised at things that contain wheat that you never even think about

8. Same sort of thing, only with tree nuts.

But I don't carry an epi pen.

And you'd be surprised at the number of things that have ground up walnuts, etc.

Peanuts and cashews are not nuts... so they are fine.

seeing the other replies in this thread. Hope it all goes smoothly for you! :D

7. Don't take chances - have the Rx record and the packaging for it.
Since it is a Rx item in the U.S. You never know how experienced the screeners will be whom you encounter. If they've never seen one before, or if it's an item for which Rx info is required, you could be slowed down, or even worse, have it taken away. You do take two of these items, don't you?
Because if he has to use one, you don't want to be traveling without one for the rest of your trip.

I suggest you allow for some extra time to go through security in case someone flags you for the intensive screening because of this item.

Other than that, have a great vacation!
