Paul Begala fails to mince words...
From http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/begala-calls-republican-donors-dirtbags-2008-06-30.html">The Hill:

Begala, who worked for Bill Clinton in the White House, discussed the annual Republican President's Dinner in an e-mail to supporters that seeks to raise funds for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

"You should have seen the joint: wall to wall fat-cats. The limos were lined up around the block. If you'd stood in the middle of the ballroom and yelled, 'Hey dirtbag!' a thousand necks would have snapped around," Begala wrote.

(snip)

Republicans cried foul over the e-mail, saying it was "over the line," and hit back at Begala and the Democrats.

Begala's response:

"The Bush Republicans questioned the courage of a hero like Max Cleland. They besmirched the war heroism of John Kerry. They smeared Bill Clinton, savaged Hillary, attacked Sen. Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and Howard Dean," he said. "But when I call their fat-cat funders 'dirtbags,' they cry like babies. They are wimpy, whiny wussies."

He added, "They are going to take their beating and like it, because this Democrat believes in fighting back."

Well said Mr Begala, I suspect that the "wimpy, whiny wussies" will be crying a lot louder before it ends in November.

89. Yeah? Well you can say THAT again, too!
I will join you! Pieces of shit!

BTW - did you see the latest from Paul Begala? His email today features his apology - to dirt!

(snip)

Apparently, it didn't take long for the "Grand Oil Party" to come unglued. After I called their fat-cat funders a bunch of dirtbags in my email to you on Sunday, they started squealing like a pig stuck under a gate.

House Republicans are crying so hard over my "dirtbag" comment, you'd think they just found out they were forced to spend the Fourth of July quail-hunting with Dick Cheney.

So I want to take a minute to do something I don't do often enough: apologize. I am very sorry for calling those fat-cat plutocrat Republicans "dirtbags." Doing so was grossly unfair. To bags of dirt. After all, dirt is good. Things grow from the dirt. I myself raise tomatoes and corn and pumpkins, jalapenos and cucumbers and lettuce - all from the good earth.

No, it was too kind, too generous to call them dirtbags. Probably better to call them oilbags or toxic-waste-bags or chemical-pollutant-bags. So I'm sorry.

Nice to see! I couldn't agree more!

I'd add "shitbags" to his email, myself.

Well, that's an exaggeration, of course, but he certainly used to call it exactly as he saw it in his dealings with the Pharisees. So, there's a place for righteous anger, all right.

15. More like this, please
Not every Democrat is running for office (though practically every one that is should have high expectations for November), and those that aren't shouldn't feel like they have to pull any punches. Watch the Republicans swoon dead away when Begala calls them dirtbags and fatcats, and go positively bananas when Wesley Clark says that McCain's experience of riding in a jet and getting shot down hardly qualifies as executive experience.

The more they hyperventilate, the more effective what was just said. Bet on it.

45. And so does THIS Democrat! I am NOT bound by any nice talk from my candidate
Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 11:00 PM by calimary
OR any directive from him about how we've all gotta talk nice about john mcsame. NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!!

Sorry, Barack. I REFUSE to take your pledge. Wesley Clark was CORRECT. He said what NEEDS to be said. And we should all get behind him with bells on and reinforce that message! And yeah, the republi-CONS ARE dirtbags. For what they did to Max Cleland, for what they did to John Kerry, for what they did to Bill Clinton, what they've done to Hillary, what they've done to Michelle AND Barack Obama so far, and they're just getting warmed up. NONE OF THEM will be taking that pledge. As a matter of fact, john mcsame can make those simpering, smarmy statements about how his campaign won't fight dirty all he wants, because he KNOWS he can be confident that all the dirty work and more WILL be done by others once or twice removed from him and his campaign (um... yeah, like campaign INSIDER charlie black?!?!?!?!?!), and the surrogates will wallow in the shit so he can keep his hands clean. He knows this. BANK on it. He can blather all the live-long day about how he's going to take the high road because he knows he's got an army of dirty tricksters willing, ready, able, and even desperately eager to take the lowest of the low roads.

Dear Senator Obama, I WILL BE TAKING THAT LOW ROAD. As low as it comes. And I will be enjoying every minute of it, with whipped cream and a cherry on top. You can keep your hands and your rhetoric as clean as you like. I will happily do some of the dirty work! As long as we're working against the mud-wrestlers, we better have our own mud-wrestling squad ready to go, too. When they calm down and fight fair, I will also. But not unless or until. As long as they throw mud, so will I. And I'll be aiming high AND low. john mcsame is NO sacred cow. Nor is his Vietnam war record. If Kerry's was fodder for smearing, so is mcsame's. If those schmucks try to put it out there, they damn well better be ready to swallow what's going to come flying back at them, hopefully from as many quarters and partisans as possible. Including ME.

And by the way, Begala's experience just underscores how dirtbag bullies operate. They can dish it out alright, but they sure can't take it. And I think a little taste of their own medicine is just what they need. Turnabout's fair play. They'll get as good as they give. And as long as they're gonna sling shit, I'll be slinging it back, directly. And with GUSTO!

Edited on Tue Jul-01-08 04:09 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
(well, "humanoid" form), who were not congenital pyschopaths.

Instead, their consciences had become so hardened for so long, that they had become adaptive psychopaths. And if they'd heard that voice hollering "dirtbag" in the middle of the ballroom, from a deeper level of their crass worldly consciousness, they would have heard a little voice whispering, "Yes it's you he's addressing.... Dirtbag...."

I used to get so mad at our Democrats for apologizing to the Republicans--every time the Democrats unleash a zinger that speaks
the truth to these neocon assholes.

However, what does that say about the neocons--when they demand an apology every time someone speaks the truth about them?

We need to shut these people up by pushing their buttons and then shouting them right the frak down. They are not to be listened to, they are not to be tolerated, they are not to be trusted, and they are not to be granted respect (they've lost that, and need to earn it back- if they can).

Not one iota, at all. They have had their chance to prove themselves, for the past seven+ years, and they have failed. Miserably, utterly, and deeply failed.

We don't need to give them a seat at the table. We don't need to talk to them and work things out. We don't need to "reach around across the aisle." We. need. to. punish. them.

Hard.

Severely.

With extreme prejudice. <-- in the judicial sense

And we need to start doing it now.

57. You feel that tingle? Feel how exciting it is to hear these words?
This is what energizing the base feels like, and it can be rather powerful. The pukes do it at every opportunity, and it wins elections.

We need more of this, from EVERY Democrat. It will win us elections across the country. You call a rose a rose, a duck a duck, a Republican millionaire a scumbag, and a neocon a traitor because that is what they are.

64. Yeah, but
they have also succeeded beyond our wildest dreams in destroying the republic party, or at least putting it on the DL for the foreseeable future. That's the best thing in the bush legacy.

That's the story of the GOP bad asses. They're all paper tigers who can't take a punch.

69. DUers are a fickle bunch
It wasn't that long ago that many, many DUers thought Begala was a dirtbag, GOPher, DINO, Puke Lite, enabler, traitor, spineless, etc. Now he says something you like and he's a hero again.

Begala's always been just fine in my book.

Next week it will be Carville ...

71. Hate the sin not the sinner.
When he does wrong, we gripe.

When he does right, we praise.

Not too complicated really.

78. This belongs in Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911 Sequel
GWB would likely say it best next time he addresses the GOP's deep-pocketed supporters in some closed-to-media fundraiser: "Some people call you dirtbags, I call you my base!". Now that the GOP has redefined "elitist" as applying to Democrats only, the original F911 clip will need a slight modification. Yesterday's Elitists, tomorrow's Dirtbags!

Or is he simply mistaking strong words aimed at no one in particular for "fighting"?
