The time is ripe.

the "Moslems" will take over the Homeland, and all of of our women will be wearing burquas some day. At least that's what a friend's wingnut neighbor tells me - with a straight face.

13. With a straight face you say? Amazing.
Well I suppose if we liked the idea of wearing burqas so much, we'd start wearing them, but then you know, that's just me... :eyes: I'll never understand stupid people...

2. Based on the over-the-top burqa comment...
my guess is that "tcrlaf" with 200 posts may be a DUer just phuckin' with them, and they haven't caught on yet. Dumbasses.

I guess they have no clue that this man before being appointed to Plamegate .. was prosecuting terrorists!

And yet because he's serving the law of the land by prosecuting Libby he's some how a traitor?

The immensity of hate and the willingness to stay ignorant of the facts, even now, surprises me.

5. "Willingness to stay ignorant of the facts."
A wonderful description of this group of people. There are a few bushbots in my office - I love to remind them they are too smart to continue to believe in bush. This line will be another good jab at them.

7. Oh, we have that problem, too, just not in the same league
They have, collectively, massive quantities of "willingness to stay ignorant of the facts."

We just have it a little bit.

8. As liberals we should be able to look at both sides and decide for
ourselves which is right or wrong or even see there are shades of gray in there.

If we can't do that, we are pretty much the same as the repubs we deride.

9. I know, and we usually do.
But there are issues (well, at least one issue) where a significant portion of Democrats put on the blinders and will not let facts intrude. But don't worry. I'm on it.

10. I assume the issue you are talking about eating babies.
Because no matter how wrong I hear it is - they are just so delicious.

That's the issue you are talking about right? Or impeachment?

11. lol
No, although I'm sure the freepers think that that is what we do after a vigorous bout of ritualized group abortion!

And impeachement is a matter of opinion.

No, I'm talking about the Gungeon. A lot of it is opinion about what and where, but some people just don't (or won't) get basic facts.

But boy oh boy it makes for some fun discussions!

12. Gungeon - I thought it was something important.
You can have all the gun control you want - as along as I have my .50 cal sniper rifle and bunker full of armor piercing bullets.

Have you ever wondered why the NRA, who thinks any control of weapons (like my sniper rifle) leads to a total ban on all gun ownership, doesn't stand up to infringements on other civil liberties. For instance, isn't a Free Spech Zone an infringement on the First Amendment? Under their logic, if this happens, won't we be rounded up for speaking our minds?

If you've talked with a nutter about this, I'd love to hear their thoughts.

BTW, I've got a .30-06 at home (and use itrepsonsibly for hunting) and don't see any problems with requiring registration on any firearms.

14. Oh, it is important
Please note that while the 1993 Assault Weapons Ban was in effect, Democrats held neither house of Congress, and a minority of governorships and state legislatures.

So, yeah, it's important. And I'm particularly concerned that already, very quietly, Democrats are intruducing permenant and even more restrictive bans against 'assault weapons. I mean, how many times do you have to piss on the electric fence before you say "Gee, maybe I shouldn't do that anymore?"

Nobody is talking about it. It is the elephant in the room.

The NRA's political focus is on the 2nd Amendment, that is why they don't really get involved in the other aspects of the Constitution. And that's okay, we all have our specialties. NOW and the NAACP comes to mind as being focused on other aspects of the Constitution.

Frankly, watching that NRA VP (LaPierre, I think his name is) at the conservative conference over the weekend (same as Coulter) went off on the fictional 'liberal media', which I think is wrong and short-sighted. I'm thinking about writing his a letter. For what it's worth, I'm not nor have I ever been an NRA member.

I'm also a little peeved at the ACLU because they wuss out on this issue as well. So if I want somebody lobbying for ALL of my Constitutional rights, I have to join at least two lobbying groups?

As to the gun-registration issue, my concern about that is really with the fact that it is just one more list the government has on you. And when that information is collected and stored and available, it will be used. Considering the proto-fascist state of our current federal government, I'm not really enthused about the idea, especially since our police forces are chronically overworked and understaffed.

I don't think it really works, ultimately. I think it is a stepping-stone to other things. The people who advocate stringent gun control make a very big deal out of public safety, and seem to often times be fairly shrill on the subject. And nothing seems to be enough to satisfy their attitude.

In the UK they have mandatory gun registration, have completely outlawed all handguns of all types, and banned all self-loading rifles and shotguns. And also to combat crime, they put up 4.2 million public-area surveillience camera, monitored and recorded by the police. And now those same people don't want the police to carry guns, either, because they don't want to encourage an armes race between criminals and the cops. This as the crime rate and homicide rates soar.

I think if we put the effort and money into reducing poverty, or legalized recreational drugs to various extents, would do far more to reduce violent and non-violent crime and homicides than making you register your deer rifle.

By the way, if you really think registering your rifle will help stop crime, I'm sure that your local police will take down the make, model, caliber, and serial number of your gun if you are insistant enough about it.

6. Me Too...
It's either a sign of wanton immaturity (my team is better than your team, and can do no wrong), or gross negligence of their duties as citizens of this country.

The only thing worse would be if they are actual traitors, but I think most are too stupid for that.
