Bush to vets: "I am just as concerned as you are!"

President Bush just told the annual convention of the American Legion that he is "as concerned as you are about the conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center."

Wounded soldiers being treated there have endured "bureaucratic delays and living conditions that are less than they deserve," Bush said. "It's unacceptable to me. ... It's not going to continue."

=====

That this organization would even invite him to speak is a disgrace:

Bush plans to cut veterans health care after 2008. “The Bush administration plans to cut funding for veterans’ health care two years from now — even as badly wounded troops returning from Iraq could overwhelm the system. … Even though the cost of providing medical care to veterans has been growing rapidly — by more than 10 percent in many years — White House budget documents assume consecutive cutbacks in 2009 and 2010 and a freeze thereafter.”

Bush raises health care costs for veterans. For the fifth year in a row, Bush’s budget has attempted to raise health care costs on 1.3 million veterans, calling for “new enrollment fees and higher drug co-payments for some veterans.”

Bush administration has claimed veterans benefits are “hurtful” to national security. In 2005, the Wall Street Journal noted the growing cost of veterans benefits due to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pentagon’s response was to complain that it would “rather use to help troops fighting today.” “The amounts have gotten to the point where they are hurtful. They are taking away from the nation’s ability to defend itself,” says David Chu, the Pentagon’s undersecretary for personnel and readiness.

1. The American Legion and the VFW
are nothing but right wing shill organizations. Political Action Committees for the republican party. Their "leadership" is a bunch of old farts who think we should be at war all the time. And they wonder why younger vets stay away.

2. Bush is just as concerned as the American Legion. Yeah, I can buy that.
Both he and the American Legion should be ashamed of themselves, however.

3. A lot of RWer types at American Legion and VFW...
I know a couple of vets who left the VFW because they couldn't take the constant cheerleading.

We're not going to be able to afford hubby's meds if they raise the co-pay much higher.

5. I am a VFW and they won't get rid of me
but they won't get any of my money either.

The leader of the American Legion lied about his veteran status. He claims he's a Vietnam Vet. He spent his time in the Army at Fort Dix New Jersey.

9. The only thing the scum is concerned about
is closing that real estate deal in paraguay so he'll have a place to avoid justice.

8. How could he be just as concerned?
He didn't serve on active duty long enough to qualify for VA medical benefits.

He doesn't care. Unless you're a vet who happens to be one of the richest 1% of the country. Then he would care.

10. He's the concerner
Another pathetic performance today, talking all compassion in front of a republican political action committee, the American Legion.

11. Yeah, "concerned" that his lack of concern made into the public arena, that is.
Otherwise, he couldn't not have cared less about the level of care or lack thereof that the Troops weren't receiving.

Who does he think he's bushitting anyway? And how many times does he think we might fall for his bushit? Un compassionate, phony ba$tard!

He is so full of himself. It's really rather sickening! :puke:
