Edited on Tue Jun-24-08 03:21 PM by marmar
:scared: But read the first line of the media release or whatever this is. Isn't it odd how these AFA types love to see what they're supposedly so disgusted by?

from the American Family Assn.:

Heinz ad pushes gay marriage and family, features homosexuals kissing

.
I thought you might be interested in seeing the Heinz ad featuring a homosexual family and two homosexuals kissing.

Watch: http://www.afa.net/Petitions/Issuedetail.asp?id=324

The ad features a "homosexual family," referring to one of the men as "Mom."

We suggest you forward this to all your family and friends letting them know of the push for homosexual marriage by Heinz. This ad is currently running in England, but no doubt can be expected in the U.S. soon. It is the kind of ad which we can expect to see in California as they prepare to vote on homosexual marriage. Homosexual marriage is illegal in England.

Take Action

Make a phone call to Heinz. Their corporate headquarters' phone number is 412-456-5700 and their toll-free number is 800-255-5750.

2. I am more than happy to send Heinz
a big THANK YOU for such a great ad! I do hope they start running them in the USA, perhaps it will help some get over their ignorant bigotry.

3. I don't think they sell Heinz mayo here
They have a much larger product line overseas. Here, I think it's mostly ketchup and Heinz 57 sauce, maybe a few other condiments. Or at least that's all I've ever seen in the stores.

15. Heinz is actually
a huge food company. Heinz has a ton of other food products under other product names in addition to their Heinz products. (I used to own stock in the company. Wish I still had it.)

12. Technically, though, I don't think it's implied that the couple is really gay.
It's more of a humorous turn, if you will, with the deli guy taking the place of the mother, right down to kissing "her" husband goodbye.

The fact that a whole 200 people got offended by it is absurd.

Heinz pulls mayo ad after complaints

LONDON (AP) — Heinz Co. said viewer complaints prompted it to pull a British television advertisement for mayonnaise that showed two men kissing.

The ad for Heinz Deli Mayo depicted a kitchen scene involving two children, a father and a male deli cook with a New York accent, whom the children addressed as "Mum." At the end of the ad, the cook kisses the father as he leaves for work.

The Advertising Standards Authority said it received 202 complaints, some that said the advertisement was offensive, inappropriate and unsuitable for children.

Heinz said the ad was withdrawn because of "consumer feedback." Spokesman Nigel Dickie said Tuesday that the company apologized if it had offended anyone.

9. I wonder how many of those complaints were actually from the UK
I could imagine some poor secretary at the Heinz office in London getting a bunch of e mails with the header "GOD HATES FAGS!!1111!!!" and thinking..... "Ok, so God doesn't approve of smoking, but what in bloody Hell does that have to do with mayonnaise"??

13. My guess: zero. Maybe three.
Why it's the AMERICAN Family Association's business is beyond me. That particular product isn't even available in the States.

10. I grew up in Greenwich Village seeing men kissing men,
women kissing women, when I was I don't know how old back in the 50s. My parents never made a big deal about it. They were very matter of fact. Some people are black, some people are white. Some men like women, some men like men, etc., etc. There are all different kinds of people in this world. What matters is what is inside a person.

Fear causes a whole lot of hatred in this world, doesn't it. Riles up the ignorant to do the bidding of those in power. Is it any wonder these right wing groups, and our current admin., use it so much?

14. wow. I see that ad as more 'your kitchen is an authentic deli'
than 'your parents are gay'

I will say the ad is good, but I don't read it as pro-gay although it is not anti-gay either. Some people seem to be lacking a sense of humor.

20. What idiots
this isn't even a gay ad, for the first thing. It's an "If you buy our product, your sandwiches will be so good you'll think they were made at a real New York deli!" ad. Like, the mom was so good it was like the sandwiches had been made at a deli, and that guy is the stereotype of who you'd find making sandwiches in a deli.

Whatever. They're looking for something to complain about. It did show male lips touching male lips. Oh, the horror.
