I just officially registered as a Democrat!
So I'm very excited at the moment, as I just dropped my voter registration form in the mail, officially registering as a Democrat. The reason it took so long is kind of embarrassing. I was able to register to vote for the first time in 2004, since I turned 18 that October. At that point, I didn't really care about politics, and my only real political views came from my family. My mom's very apathetic about it, and my dad and stepmom are hardcore Republicans. So when I went to register, I registered as a Republican. And when I voted in 04, I voted for *.

And ever since then, I've gradually gotten more and more politically aware, thanks in large part to Barack Obama. And I've really just how big of a fuck up it was to vote the way I did (thankfully since I'm in MD it didn't make any difference, but it still makes me feel like a tool). So I figured the time was right to get that Rethug-card out of my wallet. I tried too before the primary a few months ago, but apparently I didn't meet the deadline. So today I finally took the step to officially become a proud Maryland democrat!

6. I register as a democrat only once every two years.
Most of the time I'm registered Republican. VERY RED county and if I want to vote for school board members, sheriff, dog-catcher, etc. all of the candidates are listed as republicans.

I joke I'm the only Atheist, pro-gay marriage, pro-choice, anti-war, liberal "republican" in the world.

Anyway, congrats.

7. Naw, there are a bunch of liberal "Republicans" in Colorado.
A lot of progressives registered repuke in Colorado Springs when Dobson was at the height of spewing his anti-gay crap--which resulted in them electing a lesbian mayor. :D Also, a lot of people out here working for environmental justice registered as Republican to gain access to repuke political leaders, to hold them accountable to Teddy Roosevelt's conservative dream--conserving the environment. Some members of that group were involved in the Rocky Flats clean-up. So it's a political strategy that can work.

13. Listen to your dad and stepmom and you will come to realize
just how unreasonable Republicans really are. They're not ashamed to take and take, but they sure don't want to ever give.

18. Welcome to the Democratic Party, Dbdmjs1022!
Just in time to enjoy our victory in 2008, where we have a very good shot at grabbing the Presidency and gaining a supermajority in the House and Senate! :bounce:
