Join DU's folding@home team and lend a helping hand.
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 04:54 PM by alfredo
Join the DU folding@home Team. It is an easy way to help your fellow man. All it takes is to download and install a client to your hard drive. All you need to do then is to make it a service (Windows) or a login item (Mac) and it will quietly run in the background. It will not degrade performance, and it is secure. The only times it makes contact with the Stanford servers is when uploading data and downloading new data for processing.

For more info go to their home page at:
http://folding.stanford.edu /

Read the info. If you want to take part download the software here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

If you want, join our team. when you set up your Folding@home client you will see where you can join a team. Type in the number 48157 and that will enroll you. This is not a requirement. You may want to go it solo, or you may want to be part of a team. Your choice. Taking part in this worthy project is what is important.

Here's our team page:
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=48157

Please join us and help find the cure for a host of ills that plague the human species.

Thanks.

3. This may be the week I finally do that!
The "project from hell" is finally finished, and I got paid for it yesterday.

After a few more pressing items are paid for (like renewing my DU Donor status),
I think I should have enough coin left to finally set up a DEDICATED FOLDING PC
like I've been thinking about doing for 2 years now.

It won't be the fastest processor, for sure, but it'll just sit there running the
Folding software 24/7/365. That'll get some numbers crunched... eventually!

4. As it is now, my little MacMini knocks out a WU in three days.
The computer is off when I am in bed.

14. Well, I've installed the program, but seem to have hit a snag...
It keeps getting assigned a WU (0.0.0.0), which isn't valid.

From reading the FAH Forums, I see that this happens sometimes,
so I'm just gonna let it keep running. Looks like the most likely
explanations are that one of their servers is hiccuping, or they just
don't have a WU configured to be crunched on my particular setup
at the moment. Either way, looks like "sit and wait" is the thing to do.

There's a lot of great info in those forums, Itellyawhut!
Especially the "Dedicated" forum. Some of the Nodes those
folks have put together are just impressive as hell to me!

15. It's rare that there is a problem. It's been years since they ran out of
WU's. There used to be a way to remove some files, a lock file I believe, to get a new WU. I don't remember if it is FAH or the old Distributed Folding.

...so I'm sure I'll be able to ID and solve the problem eventually. *crosses fingers*

13. DU ranks 175/3000 in the number of "active users".
That's great, considering that there are teams from around the world.
Let's push that number up!

19. I had trouble with it
I had folding@home on my computer but whenever I would open a game like warcraft 3 or Rainbox 6 it would cause the screen to crash. Only shutting down folding@home prevented that. I eventually got rid of it and downloaded a Boinc program designed to model the brain for AI purposes.

I don't know if I'm the only one who has had that problem.
