What is going to happen when disaster or a severe weather event occurs and you go to that old black and white portable, battery-powered tv to see what is going on with your local channel? Nothing. The portable b+w tv's will not work without a converter box. Who's going to get a converter box (battery powered) so that they can see what's going on? No one. Should the government (or anything else) knock out cable tv, everyone else will be in the dark as far as the information is concerned. Radio will be the only holdout for info. How many local news stations control a local radio station? Few and far between with most radio coming from Sinclair or Clear Channel or some "other" radio station that is not local at all.

I have seen many "local" channels disappear into darkness when the power goes out, with only one good local news/disaster info source.
