6. Welcome to Costco, I love you!
My favorite is the argument the prosecutor uses to convict him:
'Kay. Number one your honor, just look at him. And B, we've got all this, like, evidence, of how, like, this guy didn't even pay at the hospital. And I heard that he doesn't even have his tattoo.
I know! And I'm all, 'you've gotta be shittin' me!' But check this out man, judge should be like 'guilty!' Peace.

Then, when he tries to complain, his lawyer says, "That's not what the other lawyer said."

LOL!

Too funny!

Office Space is great, but Idiocracy is comic brilliance.

The first 10 minutes. ("Aw, I must have been thinking of Britney ...")
When Frito cheers on the mob trashing his car and someone fires off a bazooka, shooting down a passenger jet.
The super monster truck/mechanical dildo that is too large to fit through the doorway to the arena. ("Are you ready for some car-on-car action?")
The shot with the car driving off of the edge of a collapsed bridge and the digital town clock blinking "12:00".
Not Sure's excape from prison. (*smack!* "You're in the wrong line, dumbass.")

A lot of people I've shown the movie to (it's been on my iPhone for a year) didn't notice that Mike Judge intended Frito to be a thirty-something version of Butthead, right down to the hairstyle and lisp.

This movie was so hilarious, but.. with no child left behind and our society encouraging ignorance and mindless consumption, this might happen sooner than predicted. Our current 'leader' makes President Camacho look intelligent so what does that say about US?

It did give me hope that with the upcoming police state, the idiots actually running the machinery will not be able to make if function properly, so we just might have a chance.

38. Did you see the beginning of the film?
Where the concerned yuppies put off child rearing until their 40s to have one child when the stupid guy has eighteen children with three different women?

It was not subtle - the message was the stupid are breeding too much and will water down the genetic stock.

Or a guy with a 100 IQ (average for age cohort) goes into the future (where generations of morons have been breeding like mad, diluting the intelligence of Americans) and thus in the future he is the smartest man in America?

By any objective standard this is a pro-eugenics movie.

The movie was not promoted because he got to make whatever kind of movie he wanted to make and when it was delivered to Fox they freaked - part from the subject matter and part from slamming so many corporations.

42. Yes. I've seen the entire movie at least a dozen times.
I love the beginning of the film, it was brilliant in showing how anti-intellectualism has taken hold in this country. The yuppies encountered a lot of bad luck, and tempered with their reluctance to have children until they were 'ready' caused their gene pool to end prematurely. And yes, the kletus klan screwed like bunnies and spread their seed far and wide. But where in that was it suggested that kletus should have gotten neutered or have had a vasectomy? It was suggesting that smart people should be less full of doubt and should be less reluctant to have children. And that people who are not ready for children should probably use condoms. By any standards, Idiocracy was not a pro-eugenics movie.

I don't care what any person thinks so long as they don't rip off my nuts. That's when they've crossed the line. It's not pro-eugenics to say that people not equipped to have children should be more careful about their sexual practices. To say that those people should be sterilized WOULD be pro-eugenics. See the difference?

46. Eugenics is broader than forced sterilization
I know it is wikipedia but <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics>

"Eugenics is a social philosophy which advocates the improvement of human hereditary traits through various forms of intervention.<2> Throughout history, eugenics has been regarded by its various advocates as a social responsibility, an altruistic stance of a society, meant to create healthier and more intelligent people, to save resources, and lessen human suffering."

There are various forms of eugenics. Sterilzation and/or destruction of the undesireable is one one aspect. Encouraging the "right" people to breed is also a form.

Also

"Positive eugenics is aimed to encourage reproduction among the genetically advantaged. Possible approaches include financial and political stimuli, targeted demographic analyses, in vitro fertilization, egg transplants, and cloning.<10>

Negative eugenics is aimed at lowering fertility among the genetically disadvantaged. This includes abortions, sterilization, and other methods of family planning.<10>"

48. Yes, I've read the Wikipedia article.
And the one sentence that tries to prove your point:

Encouraging the "right" people to breed is also a form.

Does not come from Wikipedia, rather, you made it up out of whole cloth. Encourage the 'right' people to breed isn't a form of eugenics at all, that's stretching of the worst type. According to your definition, every mom in this country who wants to become a grandma is guilty of practicing eugenics. That's ridiculously foolish. Now you're just being silly.

49. My friend, things inside quotes are quotes.
Things outside quotes are not. The sentence about the encouraging the right people to breed is mine.

Eugenics is an attitude. Some have been codified into law at various places at various times. Others are private efforts - see the beginning of Planned Parenthood.

You are a eugenicist. It is OK. People are allowed to have opinions in this nation. You do not want to sterilize people against their will or do other crazy nazi-style things. But clearly you wish poorer or unstable people to have fewer kids and richer and more stable people to have more kids. That is textbook eugenics.

50. Eugenics is NOT an attitude. And you are SICK to call me a eugenicist.
You are a sick, sick man. You are accusing every single school in this country who hands out condoms of endorsing eugenics. That is SICK. There are a lot of people who end up having a lot of unwanted babies. If there were less unwanted babies in this world, it would be a better place. Children do better in environments where they are wanted. According to your definition, 75% of this country would be eugenicists. I am through with talking with you. Apparently you don't know when to stop and must proceed to make the most vile and disgusting of comments. Sick, sick, sick.

79. No, we already have one foot firmly planted in the idiocracy scenario:
I work with the most anti-intellectual group of people I have ever known. The inner core of "baiters" like to chortle amongst themselves at staff meetings whenever one of us uses a "big" word.

One day I used the word "function" in a sentence and our chief baiter started repeating the word and giggling and looking at his fellow baiters for support. I looked over at him and asked if he needed me to define the word for him.

91. And I think the movie may have benefited from that.
It wouldn't have been the same if it was a big budget blockbuster. And the casting couldn't have been any more perfect. Mike Judge's good friend Robert Rodriguez helped him out big time by providing his special effects expertise for no charge. Many of the effects were done in a few hours on fairly modest PCs/Macs. I don't know what the budget for the film was, but I'm sure he squeezed the life out of every penny. I really hope Mike Judge's next work gets the respect it deserves, as Idiocracy most definitely didn't. Oh well, at least I have King of the Hill and old re-runs of Beavis and Butthead. Mike Judge is one of entertainment's most undervalued geniuses.

47. Excellent movie! It shows what America will look like if the right wing keeps winning
Only it might be in 5 years rather than 500 years! The only difference would be that there wouldn't be so much free speech and/or sexual freedom, since the right wing is willing to make America a theocracy to accomplish what they want to accomplish. But the dumbing down of the people and the corporatism would make Karl Rove pleasure himself while watching it!

58. You got that right.
Idiocracy starts with people like the Duggars...

...breeding for ideological, if not political dominance. Low intelligence doesn't even enter the equation.

52. when I first saw Idiocracy
was with a group of people who had the DVD. It's mind-blowing (don't be depressed or sick when you see it). But SEE it.

Right after the movie was over, the TV flipped to another channel...here's what we saw:

61. I've seen it a handful of times
While it's funny, I mostly just find it depressing. The future people were far too realistically dumb. That gets in the way of the humor for me. That that's our future doesn't seem at all far-fetched.

80. Idiocracy highlights several growing societal trends that are disturbing, one of which
is the habit many people have now of simply reacting to stimulus. Several of the people I work with (fellow teachers, no less) handle conflict among the staff in such infantile ways, one of which is to immediately just get pissed off at a co-worker before taking the time to digest the situation and make a measured, intelligent response. I've learned to keep my mouth shut around them, but that just makes them think I'm weird and unhelpful.

83. I think the bigger trend was toward rewarding machismo...
...which I think does include the "instinctive" reaction to stimuli seen in Idiocracy.

82. I would recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
It's a cynical comedy.
I thought it was hilarious, yet, it hit a little too close to home, sometimes. Funny but sadly, true.
