Would you like to see oil nationalized?
How about a bill to open up the off-shore to drilling by the US government. That would scare the shit out of people in certain quarters.

2. If it was, we'd see development of alternative energies so fast we'd faint.
The only reason the country is still dependent on this outmoded technology is because it's profitable to a few.

6. Yup. We would see almost immediate plans for the oil industry
to keep itself relevant. That's already beginning to take place, but much much too slowly.

Of course, if the Polywell is on the level, they might be completely irrelevant in a few years anyway.

5. Most of the oil is imported. It would have to be nationalization of the
refining & distribution. It would be outsourced to contractors like everything else.

7. Yes
I also believe a couple US owned refineries would also help. The oil industry has played the "we don't have enough refining capability" or "we need to shut down that refinery for maintenance for 2 weeks" BS for the past few years.

I also believe oil should not be traded on the futures market.

CSPAN hearings on oil futures.

8. If our armed services are fighting for oil......
I think you can answer your own question. We have national oil without the benefits to the nation. I do think we should hold off on giving any NEW contracts to big oil.

10. I don't know about nationalization, but I'd make life miserable for them
An absolute must is to force them to divest any interest they have in alternative energy. That should have been done years ago. This is necessary so the government can pour money into renewable source technology.

Then current subsidies and tax breaks should be ended. All of them.

And offshore/wilderness drilling? Forgetaboutit.

Finally, I would like to see former Exxon CEO Lee Raymond tied to a palm tree on a low laying island in the Pacific, and ask him one last time if he really believed global warming was a hoax.

12. No, oil is an international commodity
Our own oil production doesn't meet our demands, so what will nationalization do?

Nationalize the refining? That doesn't help when the price of the crude is so high.

13. We probably would go drilling loco if we nationalized.
but alot of other problems would be fixed.

14. That could work
providing the government doesn't actually do it, but prevents any private company from doing so. I heard on the radio this morning that off shore drilling would take as long as to 2025 to actually produce oil and that it would have the effect of lowering gas prices by six cents.

I'm all for nationalizing all extraction industries including oil and that would also be mining and lumbering.

15. I think if we just broke them up again...
...and reinstituted the restrictions against trading that McCain did away with a few years ago things would ge reasonable again.

For example, no company could own the oil from the well to the gas pump. One company does the drilling and pumping, another company ships it or runs the pipeline, another runs the refinerys and gas stations.

More regional oil companies, maybe some co-ops as well.

16. Competition
Part of me likes the idea of a nationalized company that the "free market" has to compete with, but right now I think it would be too difficult to keep it from getting corrupted.

17. Corrupted? You mean, like, $4.50 gasoline?
How in hell could a nationalized oil industry be more corrupt than what consumers are dealing with now.

The government inserts itself into the production, non-production and regulations of all SORTS of products. It is a matter of philosophy and will, not risk.
