The Democrats in Congress have let the GOP make the Presidency a walking impeachable offense
I'm guessing the articles of impeachment for Barack Obama have been drafted and will be submitted on January 21, 2009. And who could argue with them? Obama will be assuming command of a system that is illegal and unconstitutional by its very design.

Suddenly, the GOP will remember the rule of law.
Suddenly, the GOP will remember certain parts of the bill of rights
Suddenly, the GOP will turn to its libertarian, hate-the-government flank and emphasize the police state that they have built.
Suddenly, the media will begin to report on the possible links between surveillance and blackmail.
Suddenly, the chattering class will condemn in the strongest terms the abuse of power by the executive.

You see how that works? They won't even have to wait for him or someone down in his administration to do something. The position is illegal in and of itself.

1. They impeached Clinton to discredit the idea of impeachment.
Then they demonstrated that a president can get away with mass murder and a hundred other high crimes. I think they want to keep it that way, so when they step up the theft machinery for 2012 (if indeed they permit Obama to win this time), they will be even more bulletproof. They are laying the groundwork for a permanent dictatorship.

2. Impeachmet only off limits for Dems
The Republicans will be able to spin impeachment again because as Karl Rove said, they have "short memories" and they "don't pay attention to the news".

The Dems have weak useless leadership right now that is just as corrupt as the Republicans. They act like Republicans in Democratic clothing.

3. Both parties are laying the groundwork to be replaced.
They are making themselves enemies of the American people, and eventually even Americans can see it.

5. It is a mistake to blame the whole party for a few bad apples
The ones who need to be replaced are Pelosi, Hoyer and all the "blue dog dems".

4. They will compromise with the Repubs before the new President...
takes office, so they will be sure to have oversight and we will be back to the good old days, like when Bill Clinton was President. Just in time, huh?
