Rising Gas Prices, and a Golden Opportunity
$4.00 gas is the perfect opportunity for the democrats to scream for Alternative Energy sources.

Instead they are allowing the Repubs to control the public airwaves with their "offshore drilling" and "Gas Tax Holiday" ideas. This leaves the Dems constantly on the defensive.

*

Why has Barack Obama not made one of his trademark auditorium speeches regarding Alternative Energy. This would shut up the Neo-Con message of Drill More, Drill More, Drill More along with touting the Liberal message of a world for tomorrow

That is if Obama really is going to run an energy conscious administration. Which i have not heard much about in his "change agenda"

Rising Gas Prices, and a Golden Opportunity...Is it going to be missed?

1. Just as soon as they invent a practical alternative to fossil fuels.
In the mean time, it's 99% of all there is.

2. I'm wondering where Obama is on this too...
I hope he's putting together something really comprehensive and mind-blowing.

3. Begging for leadership.
The American people were unified like they hadn't been since WWII. Right after 9/11 the President could have asked for anything. A perfect chance to launch a national effort to kick the oil habit. Just think the position of strength we would be in if we could tell the Saudis and Iranians to go drink their oil for all we care. But with two oil whores in the WH we got,"go shopping", pathetic.

4. Obama wants gas prices higher? WHAT?!?
"But to encourage a transition toward alternatives, Obama favors legislation that would make fossil fuel more expensive. Doesn't that mean more pain to come under an Obama presidency? "There is no doubt that in the short term, adapting to this new energy economy is going to carry some costs.""

That will hurt the poor the most!

6. We need both short and long term solutions...
The Democratic party representatives when asked why they don't support drilling state that it will take 10 years before the oil will come on line. Unfortunately, they said the same thing 10 years ago. Not a smart idea when the majority of people are very upset about gasoline prices.

I believe we need to move to alternative energy but it's not going to happen overnight. If two years after Obama takes office and the Democrats gain full control of both houses, the price of gasoline is seven to ten dollars a gallon and the economy has tanked, the mid term election will be a disaster to the Democratic Party.

So we need to ensure that Big Oil gets more oil in the pipeline for the short term. Big Oil probably wants to sit on available resources because they already are making record profit. Our elected officials can force Big Oil to drill on available leases or find someone who will. If absolutely necessary
we can open up areas in the Gulf of Mexico to exploration and drilling.

I'm sure we can find ways through taxing Big Oil to finance, promote and initiate alternative energy programs.

We can also find out if speculation is driving the increase in gasoline prices. If indeed some investors are profiting from oil trading and are creating a bubble, we may be able to burst that bubble through legislation or possibly drawing down the strategic reserve by one third. We might even be able to find some illegal activity in the market and send a few more greedy individuals to prison.

The biggest problem we face may be the big corporations and the control they exert over our elected officials.

Pointing out that if the people we elect want to retain their jobs, they should start accomplishing something or face unemployment might just work.
