So I went to Wendys after work tonight and paid $2.16 for a medium coke
and that's all.

It will be the LAST time I can't wait for something to drink until I get home from work. When did a medium coke go up over $2? I must have missed it.

The fed needs to consider raising rates. When it costs over $2 for a freaking medium coke the dollar has lost too much value.

3. Correction...
There is no "sugar" in Coca Cola. It is the low-cost sweetener corn syrup which has been one of the causes of the obesity epidemic. Your body cannot process corn syrup so it just becomes fat. Avoid ALL foods with corn syrup.

16. That's right....
A couple of years back I went through everything in my kitchen and threw out everyting made of corn syrup. I do indulge in Ice Cream (with Corn Syrup), but I won't purchase any products with corn syrup. So I encourge the original poster to stop drinking sodas as well.

5. Sugar? Where? That's high-fructose corn syrup coming out of the spigot
Chemically altered, and much, much more fattening than old-fashioned sucrose.

Just drop by 7-Eleven and use your SIGG bottle to hold your fountain drink. You'll pay less overall.

27. That's true....
I have traveled to foreign countries and their sodas are made with cane sugar. Corn is subsidized by the US Government and that's how it can be turned to low cost sweetner that competes with sugar.

31. That's only part of it-- the ban on Cuban sugar and...
US price supports for sugar growers are the real reason.

Anywhere else in the world sugar costs less than half of what it does here, and we've even lost candymakers to Canada over the price of sugar.

Canadians can buy Cuban sugar and cigars.

9. Drinks are fast food's profit lifeblood.
It's silly to purchase a beverage from a place like that unless you're getting a meal, and then it should always be part of a combo deal whenever possible.

If you want a cheaper drink, go to a convenience store and bring in a reusable cup. I buy 100 oz. refills in a huge insulated mug all over town for, at most, about $1.50. Diet Coke f0r t3h w1n!!!!

56. Collards are very high in Vitamin C and Minerals....a great Green...
and kept a lot of poor folks going with a little "pork" cooked in with the greens...ham hock or a small slice of that "Virginia Ham" you can find in sealed packets for about $1.50. I freeze what I don't use because I only put in a teeny bit for "taste" but it makes a huge difference with Collard Greens. Also...a pinch of sugar in the water. Yummmm. My Grandma used to drink the juice the collards were cooked in...called it "pot liquor" and she lived to be a hundred with all her wits about her, and eyesight until her last year when she broke her hip.

It's very good stuff...collard greens. Much bang nutritionally for the buck...and with a little flavoring appealing to many. A forgotten veggie, imho.

Ah well, I don't care for fast food anyway, so scratch another place to eat.

If there's been a spike it hasn't shown up north of the border, anyway.

Of course, I don't know what they're at now as opposed to a week or so ago, as my walk down to the local Wendy's for a burger was interrupted by my first Oh Look That's A Funnel Cloud A Kilometer Away Or So experience. Probably best I didn't check. ;)

I mean, in a grocery store, you can (on sale) get 4 (12) packs of Coke for $12.00...

Hotel honor bars are even worse, where some of them charge like $3 PER CAN...

And of course when you get a Coke at a sporting event/movie, it's also insanely high there to..

I don't drink coffee. My morning diet Coke has been my routine for years. Then I realized I was spending about $40 a month on fountain drinks, not counting if I picked up lunch.

Now I still have a morning soft drink, but I buy 2-liter bottles, keep ice in the freezer, and pour my own. There is still something about the fountain drink that I miss though, but now I only have a few per month instead of everyday.

Two liter bottles use Aspartame.

Aspartame has a too short a shelf life to sell in the 5 gallon bulk syrup packages used in fountains.

Thats probably why you notice a difference in taste.

At our local bowling alley, a large coke is now $3.50..and popcorn is $3.00..

The kicker? Refills are free, so people keep the cup, and for a few weeks (until they lose the cup) they just wait til it gets crowded, and then get free refills .. I've even seen kids pick up an empty cup, and go wash it out :)

Soft drinks, eg: Coke/sprite have the biggest markup of any product, its costs nothing to produce.

It was the biggest seller and made the most money for mcds, on hot days we were told to double salt the fries.
