About todays events in Congress.
Once you read it you will understand why we need to make the republicans a very minor party this year.
I so badly want somebody to defeat her this year. I cannot stand her. She does nothing but spout right wing talking points.

Friends:
This has been a good week in Washington for constituents in the 7th District. Thanks to your interest and actions, two major Democrat stonewall efforts collapsed this week. First, the Democrat leadership gave up – again - on its retreat and surrender policy for Iraq. Working together, millions of Americans rose up to force passage on the Department of Defense supplemental appropriations bill that will fund the progress our troops are achieving in Iraq and Afghanistan well into the next administration. And importantly, the legislation passed without any politically motivated conditions that would draw the President’s veto, ensuring our troops, military families and civilian employees can do their jobs and earn a pay check.
The Democrats drug the fight out as long as they could. I received a copy of a memo from the Deputy Secretary of Defense earlier this month instructing the military services to begin preparations to shut down operations due to funding shortfalls. That memo contained these ominous words, “Military personnel will serve without pay until such time as appropriated funds are available to compensate them for this period of service… Civilian employees
not engaged in exempt activities will be furloughed, i.e., placed in a non-work, non-pay status.”
That memo prompted me to write to Secretary Gates to ensure that support for our troops and their families would stay in place. You can read that letter and my comments on passage of the supplemental here: http://blackburn.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=94911. Fortunately troop funding is safe and secure; at least for now.
Today the Democrat opposition to reforming our intelligence surveillance procedures also collapsed. Again, it was the efforts of millions like you that ensured that our national security could be assured. The FISA updates will allow the intelligence community to monitor terrorists around the world and will still protect our civil liberties at home. I think it is telling that the ACLU still objects to the compromise and that Sen. Russ Feingold calls it a “capitulation”. To me, that means the American people got a good deal.
Again, this was a good week for constituents in the 7th District and a good week for national security. It should also reinforce what all of you already know, that by building coalitions of concerned citizens and by fighting for what we believe in, we can force our opponents to compromise instead of accepting raw deals for America.
My Best,
Marsha
