Kmart CMO Quitting, Will Fight for Gay Marriage

Kmart Senior VP-Chief Marketing Officer Bill Stewart is leaving the company to become a full-time volunteer on a campaign to protect gay marriage in California, the company said.

... But he said he felt personally compelled to go in a different direction because of a historic vote approaching in California. "It was something that personally was so important to me that I felt I needed to do everything possible," he said.

Mr. Stewart, who's on the board of directors of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, will become a full-time volunteer for Equality for All, which is leading the campaign against a ballot initiative to overturn a California Supreme Court decision earlier this year and ban gay marriage.

1. I guess that excuse is as good as any to escape Sears/Kmart
I believe Gay Marriage in California will last longer than Kmart/Sears Holdings.

4. Lots of folks seem to be leaving the corporate world for political activism these days.
I see it here in Phoenix. They must be seeing the writing on the wall about their job security and figure it's better to get on board with a change of administration.
