we are on a fast track to Fascism

and with this leadership our party has no intention of stopping it

I'd give my last plug nickel to get out

if that would pay my way

And sadly not much of one today, sorry. My apologies. The 4th Ammendment was basically given the heave-ho, so there is not much of a reason to celebrate.

Much like there was no reason to celebrate when they made a SEQUEL to Men In Black.

Mr. Smith seems to be extremely hit and miss. For every Six Degrees Of Separation and Ali, there seems to be five Bad Boys, independence Days, or Wild Wild Wests. (Or I, Robots (!))

I will admit though I would really like to take in a viewing of I Am Legend.

32. If I was on my own, it might be possible -
Hell, I'd half starve and live in my van near my workplace premisis to save up the money to move out of the country - my workplace is open 24 hours has showers, lockers, refridgerators and microwaves, there's parking that so long as you move around a bit, they won't tow you - and I've lived like that before. So, I'll be "a model employee..." - always on site in case of an emergancy. A PO box and a cellphone, and I'm set.

But I have a family that has special needs, and even moving down the block to a cheaper rental is out of the question at this point in time. Maybe once the kidlet gets her act together and moves out, we can save enough and go.

My father used to tell me that cities carry the seeds of their population's own destruction; once you move into one, you're usually locked into the fortunes of the city. As the economy tanks, there's usually nowhere for the masses to go, nor do they have many options for self-sufficiency, so 70% or so of any city's population will ride it's downward spiral like steerage class on the Titanic.

I would not want to leave and have no where to go and not a dime to get there. So I guess I have to stay and do what , I guess I can toss my guitar at them.

The only thing we have now is what many of us suspected all along.

We have a one party system well on it's way to the 2008 version of 1984.

21. 1984 is long gone...what we have here
is even more insidious. It is 1984 and the vast majority think we are free...There was a post earlier today that had a great link and I lost it...the OP basically said that there is only an illusion of freedom and that is even more dangerous that outright Fascism.

Would that be a Demo-cism or Faciocracy? I am not good with word play...

24. well that's certainly true. I remember something about
the people actually building their own prisons but not even realizing it. They built their own cities and towns and they are us and they thought they were free . I can't recall if I read this or where it was anymore but this is true.

I feel over all these years we only relate not being free when we see bars or fences.

25. talking about fighting here.
Well have not the people in Iraq been fighting? I feel they have and so far they are not doing very well. They had cities and towns that were bombed to hell which may not be the case here.

I really can't even imagine how this would look here if people were out here fighting. Yeah , if there were baracades we would at least know where.

I don't want to leave the impression I am afraid of dying , that's not the case. I just look around here where I live and don't see people who look like they would do any sort of fighting.

Besides, every place else is going to get pretty funky pretty quick, if it hasn't already.

Funky as it's gotten here, we are still probably in the place of minimum funkiness, and darn it, we can just see to it that funkiness abates!

41. I'll let you know if it's any better south of the border.
I'm leaving in a few weeks. It's not a permanent move, but a temporary self-imposed exile/research trip for the better part of a year.
I loved it there last year and didn't want to come back. Really, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be, at least in Guadalajara.

But leaving isn't the answer. Staying and trying to change things is the way to do it.

43. I can leave

Any time (disregarding such practicalities as selling vehicles and so on, packing and shipping the rest of my stuff, etc).

But I think I'll hang out here a while yet. There's still much about this country that is worthy. There's still, somehow, a lot of potential. If the jingoism and the corporate fascist domination that help make this country anything but 'great' can be lost, or diminished, this could still have a chance to fulfill the promises made in years before.

Then again, it could go straight to hell. I'm hoping having the Good Guys (well, the Somewhat Better Guys) in power for a decade or so, at minimum, will salvage what's left of the 20th-century USA and lay the groundwork for a nation that finally does live up to the ideals proclaimed by those well-meaning but flawed white landowners in 1776.

living among the most ignorant people in it...
If I'm going down, I prefer to do so among
