How the fuck is some stranger supposed to give a fuck about you?

Hell, it's difficult enough to get people you know to give a fuck about you in this world, let alone some complete and total stranger you'll never meet.

Oh, and maybe you have met your "representative" and you feel all special and pretty because of it. How honored you feel, you got to meet royalty, err, I mean someone in power! Oh but wait, you're in power aren't you? This is after all a democracy isn't it?

Why should you feel honored to meet your servant?

That's because they're not your servant, they're your master and you're their slave.

And by the way, I'm not a pinko commie! Hell no, I'm actually devoted to capitalism.

But I'm not stupid enough to think a strange person gives a fuck about me, when I wouldn't be surprised if they'd sacrifice their own children if it got them more power.

These people are AT LEAST as flawed and human as we are, and quite frankly, I tend to believe they're even more nuts and screwed up than any normal person in this country.

Fuck 'em. They're not the Democratic Party, we are.

We're the change we've been waiting for, but you gotta vote for me to get it.

2. Frankly
Hardly anyone gives a shit about anyone else, or we'd all be working together against our common enemies. I did say hardly anyone!

Your point that we are the democratic party is important. The power is ours, if we only grasp it. I do politics because it is the best way to help the most number of people, and because, like so many here, I care about others.

3. John Stewart said we've lost our humanity...
and I tend to agree with him.

4. As a whole
He may be right. But as long as there are a few of us still fighting to make the world a better place, there is hope for finding our humanity again.

5. Ahh, the famous "they" strike again. "They" seem to be everywhere.
I think I get what you are saying, but on a different plane here in the flooded midwest we have lots and lots of strangers helping one another and none of them ask or care if you are a Democrat or a Republican.

On the political side I don't expect my representatives to jump through my personal hoops. We have a representative form of democracy and so we don't have a referendum or poll for each question or issue which arises by which our representative are obligated to vote.

I always thought that I was a cynic, but now I see I was just a pretender. I am guessing that next January that sound we will be hearing here at DU will be of popping heads when people realize that Bush will not be impeached. Reality is really a bitch.

6. It seems to me that more and more the only people even
pretending to be nice are those on the receiving end of or trying to be on the receiving end of my money, whether it be the phony "How are you today?" of the checker at the grocery store or the "Hello, I'm calling on behalf of...." any number of causes.

I used to try and keep in touch with my so-called friends, but realized it was becoming increasingly a one-way street. I'm conducting an experiment. I'm not calling or making an attempt to contact people I used to call frequently. Just want to see how long it takes before they call me. So far, it's 6 months and counting. I'm not holding my breath.

You are right. It's very hard to get anyone to notice, much less pay attention to anyone else. Anyone who thinks their elected "representatives" care about them is beyond naive.
