Couple find 60,000 bees in wall of home
No death penalty for these little squatters. Props to the Joneses! :applause:

Tenant saw honey ‘seeping out of the wall’

"Mark and Amy Jones discovered their home in Concord, N.C., had 60,000 clandestine tenants living rent-free — but instead of taking the squatters to court, they found them new accommodations.

Acting on a report from their tenant that the 100-year-old home had honey oozing from a wall in a vacant upstairs bedroom, the couple did a little detective work and discovered a massive honeybee haven 2 feet wide and 6 feet long, nestled into the wall.

“The honey was seeping out of the wall,” Mark Jones told Matt Lauer on TODAY. “I actually tasted it. I heard the buzzing in the wall — it was obvious that it looked like honey, smelled like honey, tasted like honey.”

Mark admitted the renter “was a little nervous about that.” But the Joneses, married for three years, were adamant that the bees weren’t to receive a death sentence. “Bees are pretty important to the environment when it comes to pollination and things like that, so we didn’t feel that we should kill them,” Mark said..."

8. I had a 20,000-bee swarm in my patio arbor a few weeks back.
A local bee keeper has them now, with my name on next year's honey!

18. My neighbor had a swarm settle in a hollow tree last year
Before the bee keeper could come to extract them they had already swarmed again (it flooded) and moved on.

Several years back I was outside when a swarm was moving through. I heard them and had no idea what the noise was. I moved up to my patio looking in the direction of the noise and saw what looked like a shadow moving from the south to the north through the trees. As the first few got close enough for me really see I realized it was a HUGE swarm of bees. I quickly moved myself inside and watched from the window. It was a really wild experience. Especially how they went through the trees mostly rather than over them.

9. I can see this scenario happening!
“The honey was seeping out of the wall,” Mark Jones told Matt Lauer on TODAY. “I actually tasted it. I heard the buzzing in the wall — it was obvious that it looked like honey, smelled like honey, tasted like honey.”

MARK: "Honey!"
AMY: "yes?"
MARK: "No, honey!"
AMY "YES?"
MARK: "I mean 'HONEY'"
AMY: "WHAAAAT??!!!

11. Honeybees inside the walls of a house is one of the nastiest, most
expensive messes to deal with. If all you do is kill the bees, the honey starts to ferment and draws ants and flies by the billions. If it's warm weather, the wax starts to melt.

When I lived in the house, bees tried to invade a hole up under the eaves but luckily I saw the swarm right when they arrived and had a neighbor get up on a ladder and plug up the hole with a rag REALLY FAST. They still got in around the old windows and were swarming in my LIVING ROOM when I got home from work, lol. Fortunately swarming bees don't sting. But my cats were complerely flummoxed, and I had to spend all night spraying Raid at the poor bees. I am REALLy glad the bees were prevented from setting up housekeeping!

15. Something similar happened to my daughter and her husband
after they moved into their home several years ago. It wasn't such a large hive but it did take a while to remove it.
