Keith says Chimpy is going to ask Congress to lift the ban on offshore drilling
and thereby put Congress on the defense as if it is it that is blocking America's quest for lower gas prices.

God I hat that fucker.

4. What else can they do?
We, on the other hand, need to circulate photos of our refineries. No matter how much oil we have, doesn't matter a damn if we can't refine it. How many smokestacks aren't smoking because the refineries have been taken offline, btw? I know that was the case the last time prices were mysteriously jacked.

5. My theory bears fruit
To point: the Repubes will push for ANWR and offshore drilling, using the oil prices as justification.

The clincher behind my argument is that oil prices are driven by speculation, rather than the mythical principle of supply and demand. So the Big Oil insiders are flooding the oil commodities market with speculators pushing that barrel price up, up, and away. Get people fed up with the prices, and start softening them up with the phony argument that only a few more million barrels of oil will solve the problem.

Net result: No real climb in supply, but prices will magically drop (with short-sellers reaping the windfall this time), as if it did make a difference. Then you will see their cheerleaders on Fox, CNN, etc, saying "See? I told you! Those liberals and tree-huggers are naysayers and like to punish innovation and profit!"

Speaking as a tree-hugger, the environment will be further compromised, from the drilling itself to the increased emissions due to the jump in usage.

We liberals DO advocate innovation and profit. Invest and innovate with alternative, renewable, clean energy. Say no to shortsightedness and immediate large profiteering in favor of steady, long-term, and secure profits after some short-term sacrifices. Use those profits for more R&D, extend tax breaks for green energy, and put an end to this circular death cycle of endless drilling and exploitation.

7. I've been around
Dirtied my fingertips a time or two in the mercifully defunct Primaries forum, and also a few posts here and there in the Books forums down below. As usual, I am not in compliance. :loveya:

9. I can represent the other forums!
The real question is, will the Dodgers forsake us? The Reds gave us a much-needed respite from the June Swoon tonight.

I need to get to some games. They are 5-0 when I go to Dodger Stadium. We need all the help we can get!

It's in the slot for the Faux game — though last week it was, but they showed the Sox here. x(

I would be too.

I think the last time I watched an NBA game was in '84 or thereabouts.

13. Be thankful for the Lakers!
They distracted Los Angeles from the horrible Dodgers losing streak. Torre said last week he wished the Finals went on for 13 games, lol.

Hey! CatWoman will be proud! We hijacked her thread! :bounce:

15. Ah, baseball
Despite the recent setbacks with our Boys of Summer, the season is still young. As a rule, I don't fret over the standings TOO obsessively (key word is 'TOO') until late August or early September. Life is short. Listen to Vin Scully and have a Dodger Dog!! :bounce:

18. The saving grace is
the Snakes ain't been doin' much lately, either.

I got frustrated as hell a couple weeks ago, though — we'd win, they'd win; we'd win, they'd win; they'd lose, WE'd lose. Couldn't pick up a game. :grr:

And now we're feelin' the breath of Sandy Eggo and even (le gasp!) the Giants, though at this moment the latter are down 3-1 after eight to Dee-twah and the Madres got mashed by the Jankees. (That's one where you really want both clubs to lose.)

19. The upside of a weak division
The Reds have a better record, and they are cellar-dwellers. Praise the NL West!

Yeah, that was frustrating in the extreme. Permanently ensconced at 3.5 games. x(

I just want to be .500 at the All-Star Break. Too much to ask??

20. Depends
When's Furcal comin' back? :(

When's Penny gonna get his ERA below 6? :grr:

And, when Jones comes back, will anyone notice?

On the up side, I'd bet good money right now that DeWitt's gonna be Rookie of the Year. I'm really impressed with that kid.

21. DeWitt!
Nini's best friend's mother is from the same small town in Missouri as DeWitt. So we have been pulling for him!

Ugh, I hated the Jones trade. He is the worst player we've had since Milton Bradley - both are/were has-beens with too much attitude.

Problem is, we got the wrong Jones from Atlanta.

22. Damn, you saiddit
C. Jones is just... well, fucker must think he's Ty Cobb.

(Just to show how old I am, when I typed "C. Jones" I also thought of Cleon.)

I did a bit of googling when Steiner started talking up Sikeston. Found the newspaper there, and that one of DeWitt's old high school opponents were the Wildcats from Cooter High. :D

I'm kinda pissed, though, because the Dodgers put a radio affiliate in Sikeston — on a Christian station. I've been begging them for years to put one a bit farther north than Santa Maria so maybe, just maybe, I could hear it. But, nooooooo. x(
