President of the United States and First Lady on the cover of "Us Weekly"

Barack and Michelle Obama appear on the cover of the Us Weekly hitting newsstands later this week, further establishing their crossover appeal as both political and entertainment figures. The magazine will feature a six-page article on the Obamas' love story as well as an album of family photos. The cover is headlined "Michelle Obama: Why Barack Loves Her" and teases, "She shops at Target, loved 'Sex and the City' and never misses the girls' recitals. The untold romance between a down-to-earth mom and the man who calls her 'my rock.'"

In February, Barack Obama sat down with Us for a Q&A (where he notoriously refused to answer the boxers-or-briefs question). That article, combined with Hillary Clinton's "My Worst Outfits Ever" spread critiquing poor past fashion choices, helped establish political figures' appeal to celebrity magazines, one of the new trends emerging from this campaign season.

An excerpt of the Obamas' love story is to be posted on UsMagazine.com Wednesday morning. For the full story, pick up a copy of the magazine, which hits newsstands nationwide on Friday (Wednesday in New York and Los Angeles).

1. What a gorgeous picture of the two of them!
I'm surprised to see them on US Weekly which is very tabloidish. I guess I'll have to pick up a copy this week!

I feel short and dumpy when I see women like her, lol.

He, OTOH, is like he has described himself: a skinny kid with big ears. But that's fine with me. He knows how to act presidential (fancy that)and talks like a statesman (ah......remember statesmen??)

10. There is no discernable connection between
George and Laura Bush. Have we witnessed any genuine affection between the two of them? Ever? They seem more like business associates who don't really know (or like) each other.

11. I have a very, very good feeling about her
She's not gonna be a hood ornament, doing a CBS "special report" with Kutie about picking the new White House china or cracking lame jokes about "Desperate Housewives" at some let-down-our-black-tie-hair EE-vent.

She's gonna be an asset to President Obama, and to the nation.

:patriot:

16. That's the best part
Not since Eleanor Roosevelt, I think, have we seen a first lady so likely to say "Feh!" to the "Get thee behind me, woman" crap.

Jackie Kennedy was an asset, but I think she could've been more of one if we hadn't still been de-inventing June Cleaver at that point.

18. I think Hillary Clinton stepped outside the traditional FL role also
In fact, I'd say it's probably the biggest reason she was so reviled by the right wing, since she failed to hide her intelligence and competence. She had them balls to the wall on healthcare, but for the Harry and Louise bullshit attack of Big Insurance.

Michelle Obama is also very inteligent, independent and opinionated, so I don't doubt that she will also have a positive influence on her own husband's administration.

22. Not the best mag for a presidential candidate to be on.
US is a trashy supermarket rag.

I should know, I have a subscription. :hide:

But FFS, c'mon Obama, you're better than this.
