LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. - The Lancaster New Era has halted publication of Ann Coulter's syndicated column, following her crude characterization of presidential candidate John Edwards as a homosexual, at a public appearance on Friday.

Coulter's use of name-calling, sarcasm and overstatement in her columns too often detracts from the arguments she seeks to make. Her writing leads her political opponents to respond with name-calling and

vitriol.

The quality of public discussion falls below that which Lancaster County residents expect in the opinion pages of their daily newspaper.

Lancaster County residents of whatever political view - conservative, moderate or liberals - deserve intelligent discussion of issues. Ann Coulter no longer provides that.

17. Living right on the edge of Lancaster County, and having read their newspapers, I assure you...

...the quality of public discussion Lancaster County residents expect isn't all that high.

No offense to those of you in Lancaster County who have two brain cells to rub together, but every time I've read the opinion pages in a Lancaster County paper, I've come away feeling dumber than when I started. :)

more folks are getting uncomfortable with her - and apparently making her uncomfortable. Last night she was supposed to be on CNN with Paula Zahn - she requested the spot - and then she cancelled (and went on fox instead). So why is she finally getting backlash - after her record of egregious statements (and someone posted the history of her asserting that nearly all democratic presidential candidates are gay - she didn't do it as a blanket statement just that in one place she says it about one person, in another place another...) - so what is it about this CPAC appearance that is different? It feels like a tide turning - but not sure what caused folks to finally recoil at Caustic Colter. Maybe just a straw and camel back, thing?
