I have seen too many letters in this column and posts on-line complaining about liberals and how they they are against President Bush simply because he is a Republican. Let this liberal set the record straight. I am in opposition to the Iraq War and have been since the beginning. I want to be wrong about my opposition. I want Bush and Cheney to be right in what they say about Iraq and the war on terrorism. You see, if I am right, then this country is in deep trouble because of the misguided policies of this administration and it faces a long and arduous recovery from the damage inflicted by people, who in my opinion, feel it is more important to be a Republican than it is to be an American. However, if I am wrong, then this country is on its way to peace and prosperity and, what seems to be most important to the Bush supporters, safety. I think I can speak for liberals in general when I say "We want to be wrong." Unfortunately the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior and George Bush and his administration have a long history of failure, lies, and downright incompetence. Yes, I want to be wrong. Sadly for all of us, I am not.
