27. That would be great
a real fantasy, though.

Neutron Jack wouldn't allow it, would he?

4. As much as Moyers would be my favorite choice..
.. I am positive the job won't be offered to him.

And I strongly suspect that if it were offered to him,
that he would refuse it.

9. The Nature Of The Beast
Russert's gig was not just to host the show, but also to head the DC bureau...and this is where his loss is felt the most and the biggest job of his successor. It's a position for someone who knows the byzantine ways of the betlway bubbleworld and can play politics off the air that gets the "A List" guests and network access. Russert did that job well...so well that I believe that's a major cause of all the shots he's taken here today. He was too connected...and, inversely, that's why his loss is being covered as intensely as is it is.

Remember, NBC/GE is a corporation that sees its news division as either a source of revenue and/or political influence. Russert, along with David Brinkley, re-invented the Sunday talk genre by using their political influence and becoming a beltway staple...a source of political power unto its very own. It's a position that the network corporate are careful to tamper with as picking the wrong host could hurt a future GE weapons contract or Fox not getting the waiver to buy more television stations or Disney to purchase what remains of Florida and so on.

I recall reading that Brown was sitting out the non-compete on his CNN deal and was teaching in Arizona. I also had ready recently that he's been talking with NPR about either hosting a talk program or some news-related project. He'd be very well suited for that medium.

Cheers...

10. As long as we're making a wish list, I'd love to see Linda Ellerbee get back in the news biz.

I miss her. But Linda's a Big C survivor and is probably enjoying life just the way it is.

Cute ... but NOBODY'S HOME. Elevator doesn't go to the top. A six-back short of a case. Not just a Stepford ... more like a Staircasevolkswagen.

A blow-up doll has a higher IQ.
