2. I've heard several people on cable shows say that next would
most likely be Chuck Schumer. These were replies when Hillary was suggested for that job. I could be happy with Majority Leader Schumer.

5. I wouldn't. We need someone from the LEFT not from the centre...
...Have you learned NOTHING from the Reid-Experience?

6. Ew -- I can't stand Schumer. He's about as milquetoast as Reid.

And, of course, if he's up for the gig there's no chance Hillary will even be considered.

32. Schumer earned my eternal disgust for pushing through Mukasey.
I would support any Democratic primary challenger to Schumer or Feinstein for their enabling of the Bush Administration.

He would be as bad as Reid or Daschle if not worse. Two words: Michael Mukrazy. Schumer should be kicked out of the Senate on that basis alone. Definitely not given a promotion. Boxer would be the ideal. If not her, at least Chris Dodd showed some spine on the FISA/telecom thing.

The fact that he is an independent who caucuses with the Democrats will help the Democrats not fall into lethargy, IMHO.

I left him off the list due to that small hitch of him not actually being a member of the majority party. ;)

7. I'd have never thought of him! I think Sen. Sanders
has the temerity to become the worst nightmare that the repukes so richly deserve....... :)

I think this is a better role for her than president.

28. It would be a pointless vote given the political lock Reid has on the title/role of Majority Leader

He's a rock-solid progressive and the only senator to vote no on both the IWR and the Patriot Act. He also actively opposed the nominations of Roberts and Alito. Russ should be majority leader for life.

23. You mean the problem with making *Representative* Wexler the *Senate* Majority Leader?
I dunno... I think there might be some sort of problem with that.

25. One hates to mar the current celebratory mood
by being a stickler about such things. But yeah, there might be some technical issues to overcome...

Being a firebrand is not enough. They need to also be a leader.

But with his stand against warrantless wiretapping and telecom amnesty, Chris Dodd would be my pick. edit: But it's clear that Reid has to go.

Durbin is my pick. He has stood up against the repubs and he voted against giving bush the power to go to war. He, like Obama, was trained by our late great Senator Paul Simon.

27. Kerry's gonna be doing investigations with the cooperation of President Obama's WH
and I expect they'll fare better than his last investigations into BushInc that ran into a Dem administration that sided with protecting the secrecy and privilege of the Bushes throughout the 90s.
