The next president will appoint at least one and perhaps as many as three Supreme Court Justices. And they’re appointed for life.

whatever is left of our civil rights.

With the exception of Kennedy, the four wingnut lunatics hate the Bill of Rights except for the second amendment (guns). Replace Stevens with another Scalia, Thomas, or Alito, and book-burning would probably be declared necessary to protect us from unnecessary information.

5. Stevens & Ginsberg want to quit..

She's been ill & he's very old...BUT look how "successful" republicans are at getting "their way"..even in the minority..so don't look for any really liberal judges to be appointed anytime soon..

The ABA should be in charge of vetting the top legal-beagles every year and publishing a list to choose from...based on their record..

The way it's done now is insane..trying to senak people in under the radar..people who deliberately avoided being on the record..:grr:

The whole SCOTUS system needs revising anway..

They should not even be eligible to serve until they were 60, and there should be a 15 year term..with a "renewal" clause.

That would ensure a turnover, and an inability of a failed president to leave his mark for 30 years after he leaves in disgrace..

I agree with your revisions to how Justices are selected, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.

All we can do at the moment is do everything humanly possible to make sure that John McCain isn't the one who gets to fill upcoming vacancies.
