Owners of L.A.'s KTLK trying to "Moderate" format? Randi replaced at drivetime, etc.
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 11:42 AM by villager
Just received this email -- apparently local favorite Harrison on the Edge has been fired, and if I read this correctly, Randi Rhodes' drivetime slot has been replaced by some raging "moderate?"

FIRST THING IN THE MORNING MONDAY WE GOING TO START CALLING KTLK'S
SPONSORS

Already nearly a thousand local Los Angeles residents and loyal
listeners have sent messages of complaint to the management of KTLK radio protesting the warrantless termination of the "Harrison On The Edge" show. If you have not already weighed in here is a live one click action page you can submit.

ACTION PAGE: http://www.peaceteam.net/goharrison.php

NOW, first thing Monday morning we are going to start calling KTLK's sponsors in mass numbers to let them know how upset we are. Be
PAINSTAKINGLY polite, we are not mad at the sponsors . . . yet. And the key points to make (succinctly) are

1) Be sure to give them the call letters of the station, KTLK, and the
show you liked, Harrison On The Edge, on 8-10PM weekdays, and that you
HEARD their ad on the show. Many are national sponsors and need to
know exactly what station and show you are calling about.

2) You are calling to ask them to pass on your complaint to the station
about this firing without cause or notice, and you don't have a problem
with THEM, the advertiser, but are asking them to let station
management know that they are hearing from loyal listeners of the Harrison show.

Here are the main numbers to call, compiled from the 8-10PM Friday show
where the interloper first surfaced. All have been tested and should
be answered during normal business hours.

Orrick Vacuums: 1-800-989-4200
Total Transformation (Legacy Parenting): 1-800-460-2235 (customer
service number)
Estate Finance (inheritance funding) 1-866-559-3863
Bosley Hair Restoration: 1-800-500-7080
Countrywide Loans: 1=800-799-5540 (customer satisfaction dept)
Jeffrey Burns Law (litigating usurious ARM loans): 1-818-867-4810
1-800-SPA-SALE: 1-800-772-7253

That should get us started, and we are JUST getting started. Our
demand is that they restore the Harrison on the Edge show to a time slot at LEAST as good as the one he had, from 8-10PM weekdays.

THEIR PLAN IS TO INFILTRATE OUR PROGRESSIVE TALK WITH BLANK INACTIVISTS

They know they could never get away with shutting down the whole
station here as they have done in Boston, and tried to do in Madison, WI (where we the people beat them back). Instead what they are trying to do is cut the heart out of progressive radio in Los Angeles, to wimp it completely down.

The last thing we need is four prime time hours of inane babble on OUR
progressive radio station. In his sneak debut on Friday night Germain
packed the callers with obvious and self-identifying long term fans,
much like a George Bush photo op where only the pre-converted need apply. And at least two of those callers were cracking jokes with about those "left wing wackos" with at least his tacit approval. That's right, they were ridiculing US his very first hour on OUR air.

And it sure didn't take long for Germain to start lying through his
teeth Friday night, stating on air that Harrison was actually NOT fired at all, when he absolutely was fired in the coldest possible way. We're not going for it. They're not going to pass off some weak lying
substitute for the strong progressive voices we love. They're not going to start turning progressive radio in Los Angeles into the home of mindless small talk. Not if we will have anything to say about it. And we're going to have alot to say about it, more and more every day.

And that's not all, Germain went on and on about what a swell, funny
guy Alan Colmes was, ANOTHER infiltrator they are bringing in while they is POISON the format, by importing a lukewarm moderate at best in the new so-called Mr. K. Of course we all know Marc Germain as a
self-described "law and order" centrist who favors the death penalty (as he said on air Friday night). And by giving him the entire regular 3-7PM drive time shift, with the heaviest listenership all day, they are trying to cut the heart out of progressive radio in Los Angeles, to wimp it completely down.

Germain represents everything that radio was BEFORE we had progressive
talk, and we're not taking one step back. Not even one. If he is on
mike on KTLK for even one minute he is never going to stop hearing from
us. Except for one more thing, the self-proclaimed "I don't screen
calls" guy let slip just a breath or two later that his producer was his "call screener", that's how he identified her. On the air less that two hours so far and just one lie after another.

No way.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed
to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.

1. randi is ecstatic to be live in LA
she said so quite effusively on Friday. Now she is live in NYC, Chicago, and LA, for the first time. I think it will be a good thing for her show, as she gets to go against Hannity head to head.

As for Mr. KABC...I have to admit that I like him. I listened to his show on the hate radio station and I think a drive time spot for him is going to make the station more viable. And Colmes is on in the middle of the night. Nobody is going to listen to him. The station had Lionel on, for fuck's sake...he's hardly a progressive activist.

3. You're right Randi WANTS her show to air live.
I'm sad about Harrison however. But I'm looking forward to Mr. K. He'll bring great rating for KTLK.

Colmes is a pile of bat shit however. But like you said, it's the middle of the night so hardly anyone's going to hear his ass.

6. yeah, I guess the live-ness is a plus -- get to hear her in the afternoon instead
...of Schulz.

I confess to not having heard Mr. K yet, but he sounds sort of, well, "mushy," instead of sharp...

9. I think Schultz screwed up.
He had live slots at many stations and then wanted to take on Al Franken (at the time) ....... well, he lost. Most of the AAR stations are carrying Al's replacement Thom Hartman live and La Schultz is getting shuffled around. His little tamtrum about AAR didn't help.

I'll give Mr. K a chance. When I heard him before on KABC I liked him.

But if they EVER mess with Momma (Stephanie Miller), there's gonna be HELL to pay!

11. They sure do.
I'm so thankful we have them.

Remember back in 2004 when we lost our first AAR station? That was horrible.

13. The amazing thing is that in his last ratings book, Mr K
was #1 and 2 in all his hours, but ABC radio insisted that KABC expand the floundering (and unlistenable) Mark Levin show to two hours. April Winchell, who appeared regularly on his show, wrote extensively about this on her blog: http://www.aprilwinchell.com/2/19/2007/

14. Which just proves that this is all about controlling the content.
Why are they giving O'Reilly and Levin air time in spite of their horrific ratings? Because the corporate owners want to control the message.

15. It's actually MORE important to BLOCK alternate messages
than whether their drivel gets listened to. This is what it's really about.. Think about the LA area or any large metropolitan area.. WHY ON EARTH would they need to have Hannity competing with himself on three other stations at the same time.. or Rush v Rush? It's about BLOCKING any alternative from being heard..

16. At least Lionel is gone
who the hell was that guy anyway? He sucked, he loved to diss Keith Olbermann, and basically he had no knowledge of what he was talking about.
