I know people like that do exist but, hey, why bother actually reporting when you have a perfectly good fax machine that takes incoming?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are way too many of these folks. Regardless of how much the media tries to whore this issue it's still an important one.

21. These people think he'll open some secret back door and the Muslims will poor in.
They never need logic for their reasoning. Hell, I heard a new excuse Saturday. One guy said he was afraid of him because they felt like Obama was "made up" person. as if prior to his years in the Senate, the man literally didn't exist!

But look, I live in the heart of the south and I've heard many folks- Democrats- that aren't going to vote on him because of the color of his skin. It's depressing!

32. I'm in GA, myself.
The only person down here with whom I've really broached the topic of the presidential election recently is my mother-in-law, a nominal Democrat who voted for Clinton in the primary but has always planned to vote McCain in the general. She knows better than to tell me flat out that she won't vote for Obama because he's black, so she comes up with all manner of reasons why the Repug is better.

I have to give her credit, though - she's done that the entire 16 years I've known her. I don't think she's voted Dem in a national election since the 60s.

Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 03:08 PM by aquart
Because calling everyone with an objection to Obama a racist is dismissive, contemptuous, and a fulfillment of all their fears. But you just go ahead with it. Brilliant plan.

17. Obama is very similar to Clinton on most issues, better on some (e.g. Iraq).
If certain people would be willing to vote for her, but not him, then what does that tell you? Having an "objection" to Obama is just fine, he's not a perfect candidate (no such thing), but what's so terrible about him that it would cause a good solid Democrat to help McCain win by staying home?

It's not that Clinton supporters as a whole are any more racist than the general population, or Democrats in general, but Hillary's overwhelming support in states like West Virginia and Kentucky would seem to be based on something more than just her individual merits.

37. Aquart - look at it this way -
Ive been called a commie for being a liberal --

on this site I've been called a racist twice within the last two days for not supporting Obama. And I have numerous written reports from dem caucus goers across the country who were screamed at in the caucuses that they were racist for not voting for Obama by caucasion college age people. Seems to be some intimidation method taught by BO trainers.

I couldn't be more disgusted with the level of intelligence displayed here.

Trying to reason with these people is no different than trying to have a rational discussion with a republican.

39. allow me to try to be even more clear.
There are those who oppose Barack Obama because they are racists. There are those who are not racists and who oppose Barack Obama for reasons other than his skin color. The OP concerned those who oppose Barack Obama because they are racists, and had nothing whatsoever to do with those who oppose Barack Obama for reasons other than his skin color. Those who oppose Barack Obama for reasons other than his skin color need not be worried about this thread.

In other words, chill the fuck out.

Spreading doubt and uncertainty, and thus making the other guy look more appealing. Fortunate for us that McCain has less personal appeal than even Bob Dole.

Of course Bush's are certified racists.( Both GHWB and Prescott bush ran political campaigns on the Eugenics ticket)

42. I'm not saying that about Obama at all, because most Dems (hopefully) don't see him that way.
The Republicans, on the other hand, are completely unabashed in their use of tokenism.

And Obama can't be one of the "good ones," in their eyes, for the simple fact of being a Democrat. That makes him scary, evil, and anti-American.

Also, notice the use of the sarcasm tag in my above post. I think the whole concept of "good" vs. "bad" *members of fill-in-the-blank-ethnic-group* is idiotic racist bullshit.

Yes--they say the word, tell racist jokes at the barbershop--but they hate Republicans a whole hell of a lot worse than "colored" (their "polite" term) people.

I'm not kidding either.
