County Conventions Show Growth of Nebraska Democratic Party

County Conventions Show Growth of
Nebraska Democratic Party

LINCOLN, Neb. – It is county convention season in Nebraska, and the state’s Democratic Party is busier than it has been in over 20 years.

With 73 75 county conventions, the Nebraska Democratic Party has outpaced the NEGOP for the second election cycle in a row. The number also represents an increase over the 69 conventions that county Democratic Parties hosted in 2006 and the 36 held in 2004.

Democratic attendance at county conventions is also on the rise. Adams County, which had seen fewer than 30 Democrats attend conventions in recent years, had 186 delegates take part in its June 2nd meeting. Attendance at the convention in Saline County on June 3 was a three-fold increase from 2006.

“The Nebraska Democratic Party is growing, and this year’s county convention numbers are just the latest sign,” said Steve Achelpohl, Chairman of the Nebraska Democratic Party. “The successes of February’s caucuses, our candidates in the Primary Election, the visibility of the Democratic brand, and June’s conventions show a sustained energy across the state. This will drive Democratic candidates to victory in November. The commitment and diligence of our local activists and the Party’s great staff have served the Nebraska Democratic Party well. I look forward to working with them to change Washington and build a brighter future for Nebraska.”

County conventions take place in early June. At these conventions, Democrats elect County Party officers as well as delegates to State Convention.

The Nebraska Democratic Party State Convention will take place from June 20 to June 22 in Fremont.
