Wingnut asks me: Why did we invade Iraq?

Ok, I got into an email debate with a friend about Iraq, didnt even know he was a rightwinger but quickly found out when i sent something out about being so mad about the Walter Reed thing.

I'll spare all the details, but it didnt take long to go from WR to why we invaded Iraq. After debunking all the usual BS about Iraq was tied to 911, Saddam gave the wmd's to Syria, fighting them over there, etc etc.. he finally asked why i thought we invaded.

here is what I wrote back, this was sent Fri nite and havent heard anything from him since.....

Why did we invade?

Its more than one reason.. actually, just for starters, I can give you 400 billion reasons

So far we have spent approx $400 billion on Iraq.

How much money is that? Well, imagine a foot high stack of $100 bills on your desk. Then imagine that stack of $100's going all the way to the moon.

The point is, $400 billion is so much money its very hard to even grasp how much it is. Its almost by definition, an unimaginable amount of money.

Is it a 'crazy conspiracy theory' to think that greedy war-profiteers like Cheney would invade a country to get an unimaginable fortune?

I look forward to your response

KK

PS- and notice i said 'spent' 400 billion, not 'paid'.. because republicans are too selfish and greedy to pay for anything.. they borrowed the 400 billion, gave a tax cut to the super rich who received it.. and then your children will spend their entire life paying interest on the borrowed money.

1. Good response.
It'll make that friend think, hopefully. I would add that we invaded so that slime like Cheney could control the oil reserves and the related production.

2. i once heard that 'the money is where leftist and rightist can meet'
as you know, the gopigs always hide the true cost of all they do, hoping unborn children will bear the burden...

3. Ohh that was GOOD!
Especially the part about the difference between "spent" and "paid". All real conservatives know the difference between those two terms.

4. Actually, $400B is a stack of $100 bills that is 496 km tall. That is well
beyond the space station orbit, which is about 350 km above Earth.

This is based on the 124 micrometers nominal thickness of a $100 bill.

6. Oh - like a rightwinger is going to know that.
The OP was being philisophical, not literal, to get a point across.

But, (s)he was talking to a rightwinger. They're not going to research that. They don't research anything.

:)

5. Even though you say you already debunked the WMD's, you
might add that the Bush regime will go down in history as the most corrupt administration ever. Before the invasion of Iraq, you knew there weren’t any WMD's. Reason being, we would not have invaded them in the first place if they had WMD's. Look at all the countries we avoid because they do have WMD's. After the first few days of the war, it should have been clear to the brainwashed cons that there weren’t any weapons of mass destruction. What is the reason for having WMD’s in the first place, if you’re not going to use them against an invading army? That should have been a wake up call to the willfully ignorant, but no instead they chose to believe a more ridiculous argument that Saddam moved them. Why would he had moved them? Was he saving them for a rainy day? Common Sense!! How stupid do right-wingers have to be to continue to believe this filthy administrations crap?
