So McCain graduated 5th from the bottom at Annapolis.
And by all accounts he was one of the worst pilots in the Navy.

And it's all been downhill from there.

I sometimes thing the Republicans are trying to throw this one because they know how bad it's gonna get in the next decade, and gthey want to tie the can of consequences of all Bush's misdeeds onto the donkey's tail.

If I recall reading somewhere, the only reason he was in the academy was because his daddy was an officer

Yeah, now that you mention it, very much like Bush, except that he actually saw Vietnam.

Makes me wonder what promising person did not get a seat so the fuck up fortunate son could take up space and receive his entitlement via nepotism.

7. Maybe some sane and competent kid with stars in his eyes
got saved from a military career.

I remember once being young & stupid enough to think about an Air Force career. Fortunately I was sufficiently nearsighted to keep me out of the cockpit, and two involuntary years in the Army finally cured whatever jingoistic military sentiment I had left.

10. Would somebody please state that college (and jet flying) is HARD!
I had very good grades in high school but getting a good grade or even a PASSING grade in college is VERY HARD and something to be proud of. I had to sweat for every single point and good grade that I got and am damn proud of of hanging in there to the end!

21. Good for you!
but being in the lowest 5% of your class does not qualify you as president. "Something to be proud of" is just not enough.

Getting shot down is not much of a qualifier, either. OK, *I* can't handle a jet aircraft. But I'm not running for president on my record of failure, either.

Have you got anything else?

42. Yeah, I will - it's hard
It's supposed to be. That's not to say that it's the only thing that is worth considering as a qualification for president, but really, would it be worth it if it were easy? You want easy, drop out of high school. That's easy.

To be fair to Johnny Mac, though, he only lost four aircraft on his own; a Chinese SAM bagged the last one.

11. Yes and survived five years of being a prisoner of war, not to
mention being tortured. Also refused to leave while the other men being held would not be allowed to. Not many would make a decision like that when they could be free and away from captivity and pain. While I wouldn't vote for him for president because I disagree with many of his policies and beliefs I also have a lot of respect for him personally.

Stalin assumed that any POW returned by the enemy was a double agent and was dealt with accordingly.

at Annapolis if his Dad and Grandpa hadn't been Admirals. He most certainly wouldn't have been accepted for flight school with his standing in the class if the Dad and Grandpa weren't Admirals.

16. Gen. Wesley Clark was first in his class at West Point
If Sen. Obama could convince Gen. Wesley Clark to be his Vice-Presidential running mate, we Democrats would own the National Security issue. The republicans have nobody to match Gen. Clark. I realize that Gen. Clark endorsed Sen. Clinton, but I'm sure he would serve his country in this position if asked.

I don't care how bad a student or pilot he was. The man went when America called and paid a heavy mental and physical price for it. And if any faction of the D's are idiotic enough to slam McCain's war hero status in any kind of serious way, America can and will revolt. IMHO.

Even without the bullet holes in your carcass you have every right to say whatever you please and if I really came over that way I apologize. I'm just saying if it's used seriously as a campaign tactic it will be very counterproductive. IMHO.

would never see the inside of a jet fighter cockpit. He should be asked how that happened.

Navy Pilots are the "elite of the elite". They scraped pretty low to get this guy into flight school.

After all, Republicans usually throw veterans under the bus in favor of AWOL National Guard elitists like the Dubya. . .and I suppose McSame is about as close as the Republicans can get to finding a "hero" in their ranks.
